Overview

Each screen type will have different elements and options, however many are common across multiple screens. All screens allow for a title and description. Explore these elements, and more, below.

Common elements within screens

  • Title - This is the heading that appears along the top of the screen. You can switch this between two different sizes (Heading 1 and Heading 2), which can be useful for demonstrating a hierarchy of information within your course.

  • Description - This is where you would add any larger bodies of text; think paragraphs or bullet points. On some screens, the default visibility for the Description is toggled off.

  • Images - Depending on the screen type, you will have the option to add an image or multiple images. All our screens that allow for images will either have a placeholder image that you can edit and swap out, or a container for you to add or upload an image.

Screen options toolbar

The options that appear in the toolbar vary across the screen types and the elements included. Depending on the screen type, you’ll be able to play with:

  • Image options. Adjust the layout of your images here.

  • Text alignment. Align your text to the left, right, or center of your screen.

  • Display options. Here, you can choose to hide elements from your screen. For example, you may only want to include a Heading but not include any Description text.

  • Background color. Change the background color of your screen.

  • SmartColor scheme. If the screen has elements that use our SmartColor scheme, you can reset these here.

  • Duplicate. If the screen has multiple slides, such as the Process screen, you can duplicate one of the slides.

  • Delete. If the screen has multiple slides, like our Process screen, you can delete the individual slide here.

  • Reorder items. If you need to reorder items within a screen, click ‘Reorder items’ and you can change the sequence in which they appear.

Screen Types

Text and image

The Text and image screen is perfect for presenting a paragraph or small chunk of text alongside a central image.

How do I use the Text and image screen?

Step 1: Select ‘Add screen’ and choose ‘Text and image’.

Step 2: Add a Title and replace the placeholder text with your own content.

Step 3: Hover on the image and select the ‘Edit image’ icon. Select the trashcan icon in the top right corner to delete the placeholder image. You can now upload your own image or search for a relevant photograph using Unsplash or GIF using GIPHY.

Step 4: You can readily change the layout of your Text and image screen with a few simple clicks.

Video

Our Video screen makes it easy for you to present a video to your learners. You may already have existing video material, or you might like to include a link to an existing resource.

How do I use the Video screen?

Step 1: Select ‘Add screen’ and choose the Video screen.

Step 2: Select ‘Edit video’ and the trashcan icon to delete the placeholder video.

Step 3: You can replace the placeholder video with your own content by pasting the video URL.

If you would like to add some text alongside your video to provide some extra context, you can switch this on. Click the eye icon, and then tick the box next to the description. This will add a description field that you can type directly into before your video.

Slideshow

Use our Slideshow screen to present your learners with a gallery of images around a particular topic or theme. This can be helpful to:

  • Showcase a gallery of product images or services you have on offer

  • Create a visual story or narrative through a sequence of images

  • Present a collection of photographs, such as your portfolio of work.

How do I use the Slideshow screen?

Step 1: Select ‘Add screen’ and select the Slideshow screen.

Step 2: Add a title for your Slideshow.

Step 3: Add your images. When you add a Slideshow screen to your course, it will contain a placeholder image. You can delete the first image by selecting the trash can, and then add your own images. If you are choosing to add images you already have, you can either drag and drop an image from your desktop or browse your device for an image file. Alternatively, you can easily search Unsplash or GIPHY for related images.

Step 4: If you choose to, add a description for each image in the description field found below the image.

Once you have added your images, if you want to reorder them within your Slideshow, select ‘Reorder’ in the toolbar along the top.

Document

Using the Document screen, you can speedily upload your existing training documents and make them available to your audience in a flash. You might choose to use the Document screen if:

  • You don’t have time to convert your existing materials into Coassemble screen types but want to start using our tool ASAP to gather insights and roll out your training

  • You have optional extra reading and reference materials that aren’t essential, but an added extra to the learning experience

  • You have policy and procedure documents you’d like to include

  • You have marketing material, such as brochures or flyers, that you’d like to include.

The Document screen allows you to upload common document formats including:

  • Microsoft Word documents (.doc, .docx)

  • PDF (Portable Document Format)

  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)

  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)

  • Text files (.txt)

  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)

Coassemble uses Google’s document viewer to allow documents to be displayed as embedded objects in their original format. This means your learners won’t need to have software installed on their devices to view documents.

How do I use the Document screen?

Step 1: Select ‘Add screen’ and choose the Document screen from the sidebar.

Step 2: Drag and drop your file into the container from your desktop, or browse your device for the file.

Step 3: Give your screen a title, and you are ready to roll.

If you don’t want your document to appear in line, but you would like your learners to download it instead, select the ‘Download document’ button in the toolbar.

Similarly to other screens, you can switch on the description field if you’d like to add some context to introduce your document.

Embed

Use the Embed screen to embed rich content into your online training. Engage your users by adding surveys, podcasts, forms, calendar bookings, maps, and more to your course.

There are many ways to use the Embed screen, but here are a few:

  • Surveys to get feedback from customers or learners. You can use Typeform, Survicate or Survey Monkey to create surveys or polls to get feedback on your training or business.

  • Maps can be easily embedded to show a location. Talking to customers? Embed your location using Google Maps to show them where your organization is based.

  • Use Google Forms or Typeform to collect useful data from your audience. This could be details on their working-from-home setup, customer information, employee details and more.

  • Use your favorite calendar booking platform, such as Calendly, to book a session with a team member. If you are using a course for lead generation, then allow a prospect to book in to speak to your sales team.

Checklist

Whether you are listing key points, a simple process, or crucial things to remember, the Checklist screen is a great option for your learners. Step 1: Select ‘Add screen’ and choose the Checklist from the sidebar.

Step 2: Give your Checklist screen a title.

Step 3: Replace the placeholder items with the first points in your checklist. You can then add additional items to your list simply by clicking the + symbol.

The Hotspot screen creates an interactive and engaging learning experience and can be used to present information in a non-linear, exploratory format.

How do I use the Hotspot screen?
