Story Mentions

How to get set up and use story mentions.

Updated this week

This feature allows you to view and analyze the content that fans are tagging your Artist in on Instagram. These videos are logged in a library that only you have access to, and are stored permanently so that you can view, analyze, and categorize content.

Story Mentions Benefits

Story Mentions allows you to easily browse and reach out to content owners for fan POV content for fan pages, identify fans that are actively engaging with you on Instagram, and lean into moments that are resonating with fans from a marketing perspective.

Use cases

  • After a show, this is a great place to browse curated content from the event. You can sort on song detected, to see which songs were most popular in shared content.

  • You can use the All Fans tab to identify high-reach and blue-tick verified fans who were there. This is a jumping off point to reach out to those fans as creators for future promotions, or simply as fans in any broader fan recognition strategies you have (be it exclusive event invites, early sound seeding, etc).

Over time, stories will accumulate, so we recommend using the Events folders to organize top content by theme or event.

Set Up Instructions

Step 1: Enable Instagram Messages

Before authenticating your account you’ll need to make sure that the connected Instagram has message access enabled. This unlocks the ability view and reply to tagged story posts:

  1. Go to the Instagram profile and enter “Settings and Activity” from the top right

  2. Go to “Messages and story replies”

  3. View the **“How people can reach you”**section

  4. Click into “Message Requests”

  5. In the “Who can send you message requests” select “Everyone”

Note, this is done on the actual Instagram account that you want to connect and not on Meta Business suite. You will have to ask the actual account owner to update this setting.

Step 2: Sign In With Meta

Next, log in via Facebook using any account that has admin access to the Instagram account. Admin access can be granted by the owner of the Instagram account, through Meta Business Manager. Editor access is not sufficient.

Troubleshooting tips:

  1. The artist must have a Meta Business account to proceed, if not you can set one up at: https://business.facebook.com/.

  2. The Instagram AND Facebook Page must both be professional/business profiles.

  3. Ensure the Instagram AND Facebook Page are both present in the portfolio you want to attach, and are connected to one another within that portfolio. This can be done directly in Meta Business Suite.

    1. You may have to create a Facebook Page for the artist, you do not have to use it. But the Meta Business manager must have both.

  4. If you’re connecting another artist, when you are taken to Facebook click on Edit Previous Settings. Make sure that you are selecting the associated Business Portfolio, Facebook account and Instagram account connected to the artist to ensure that we have connection. While in the Meta flow, unselecting any artists will terminate Cobrand access through the API. If you would like the artists profiles to remain connected, do not unselect them.

  5. Ensure you have 2FA set up in the portfolio.

At the end of the Meta flow, make sure to click Done, as this is the true final step. If you skip this, the authentication will not complete.

Step 3: Link Authenticated Authenticated Accounts

After you have gone through the process and clicked done, click on View Authenticate Accounts in the platform. Then click Link on the Instagram account that you would like to connect to co:brand.

It can take up to 6 hours for stories to start pulling in for the first time..

Disconnecting Story Mentions

Under Profile Settings, click the trash icon to remove the connection. The page will revert to a gated state, and you will no longer see Story content.

FAQ

I (or my friend) tagged the artist in their Instagram story. I see it on Instagram but I can't see it in Cobrand!

This could be caused by a variety of reasons, but two are very common.

The first is that you or your friend have set your Instagram account to private. In this case, if the artist Instagram account is not following the account, the artist will not be sent the Instagram Story Mention.

The second is that you have message requests turned off, see Step 1 above for information on how to resolve this.

I re-authenticated my Facebook Business login to Cobrand and lost access to some artists. Why is this happening?

Whenever you re-authenticate your Facebook Business login with Cobrand, you are updating what Cobrand has access to. This means that should you unselect something that was previously selected, Cobrand will lose access to that Business asset.

As well, Cobrand limits the way its access works to having one user authenticate their business assets to one organization. If you would like to share business assets between organizations, please make a request in Cobrand intercom.
