Create a Timeline Using H5P

Learn how to add a visual representation of steps or events to your course

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide step-by-step instructions for creating an H5P timeline in your course.

Procedure

  1. Turn editing on.

  2. Click the More tab.

  3. Choose Content bank.

  4. Click the Add button and scroll down to select the Timeline activity.

  5. Add a title, headline, and (optional) body text.

  6. Add a PNG file background image (optional) and adjust the image pixels.

  7. Add events to your timeline. The end date is optional.

  8. Save your work.

  9. The timeline will appear in your Content bank.

  10. Click on the Course tab.

  11. In the correct section of your course, click Add an activity.

  12. Select the H5P mini tile.

  13. Name your activity, add instructions in the description box (optional), and check the box next to Display description on course page (optional).

  14. Add your file from the Content bank by clicking the file icon.

  15. Choose Content bank from the file picker and click on your file.

  16. Verify the file.

  17. The file will appear.

  18. Save your work.

  19. The activity will display on your course page.

    There is no grade associated with this activity. It is just a visual tool to enrich your course. This activity can be used for more than historical timelines or steps in a procedure. It can also be used to design a course overview. Happy creating!
