Posting a Panopto Video to a Discussion Board/Forum
Embedding a Panopto video in a discussion board is not currently possible. You will need to record the video in Panopto and post the link to the video in the discussion board.
Recording the video in Panopto
Click on the Panopto Link in the Student Quick Links section of the block drawer. Or use this link: Panopto Website.
You may need to click Sign in to enter Panopto
Once you are in Panopto, click Create in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Select Panopto Capture. This opens a video recorder in the browser.
Click on the Audio, Video, and Screens and Apps buttons at the top to select the source for each of those options. When you’re happy with the settings, click the red circle record button at the bottom. The screen will show a 5-second countdown, then begin recording.
When you’re done recording, click on the red square stop button.
When you click Stop Recording, you will be taken to the processing screen. From there, you can preview your video, create a new recording, or redo the recording if needed.
On the processing screen:
Name the file to reflect your assignment. The default name is the video's time and date.
Choose your course assignments folder from the dropdown menu under the name of the video. Example ENG101_N31_FA26- Composition/40000 [assignments]. If you upload to the wrong folder, your instructor will not be able to see the video.
If you are not satisfied with your video and would like to re-record it, select Redo in the upper-right corner. This will delete the current recording and return you to the recording screen.
If you select Record New instead, the current video will be saved to the course’s assignments folder and may be visible to the instructor and other students until it is manually deleted.
Note: the message “Putting on the finishing touches” will never proceed beyond that on the processing screen.
Grab the link and post it on the discussion board.
Click on Manage Access in the lower left corner of the screen
On the next screen, click on Copy Link
Navigate to the discussion board and paste the link.
Type the name of your video.
Highlight the text using your cursor (click and drag over the name of your video).
Click on the link icon in the text editor
Paste the link
Click Create link
Once finished with linking your video and adding any additional text, click Post to forum.
