Purpose
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to post and reply to a discussion activity in Moodle
Forums, also known as Discussion boards, are identified by a purple speech bubble icon on the class content page
Procedure
Find the forum assignment within your Moodle course and click the link
Find the Add discussion topic button below your instructor's description of the activity and click it to move to the text editor page
If you don't see the "Add discussion topic" button, check out this article: Forum "Add discussion topic" missing.
Add your content to the Subject and Message fields
Scroll to the bottom and click the Post to forum button
You will have 30 minutes to edit this post if needed.
Responding to another student's post:
Click on the title of another student's post to read it
Click on Reply on the bottom-right of the message to open the text editor page
Write your reply in the text field and click the Post to forum button
Tip:
For forums, compose your post in a Word document, then copy and paste your work into the forum using the steps above. This reduces the risk of losing your work if you experience an internet interruption or if Moodle times out unexpectedly.
