Purpose
This article demonstrates the process of setting up and working with the Whole Forum Grading Style in a forum activity.
Background
Whole Forum Grading is a robust forum grading method that provides an option other than the original Ratings grading style.
Procedure
After you add the forum activity, go to the activity settings page and find the Whole Forum Grading section and choose Point from the dropdown menu.
You can keep the default Grading method - Simple direct grading - or use the dropdown menu to select another method. You can set a maximum grade for the assignment; the default is 100. You can also assign the forum to a grade category if you have categories set up in your gradebook.
How to Grade with Whole Forum Grading
Once students have posted to the forum, click on the forum link on your course page.
Click on the Grade users button located above the list of forum posts.
On the right side of the grading screen, type in the number grade in the space provided. Use the arrow buttons next to the student name to cycle through the posts.
To interact with the student, click the post link then click the Reply link.
You can opt to reply privately by checking the Reply privately box.
If you would like to export forum posts, click the More tab and then the Export link.
You can also click the Reports tab to view the Forum summary report. This provides information such as number of posts, word count, etc.
Click the Export button by a student's post to get to the export screen. The export screen offers the opportunity to select more than one student from the Search tab. You can also choose which Discussions you want, along with date range restrictions and file format.
