Updated over 7 months ago

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to add an image anywhere there is a text editor in a Moodle course

Procedures

  1. On the settings page for the activity, click the image icon on the text editor ribbon

  2. Click Browse repositories

Arrow pointing to Browse repositories button

  3. In the file picker, click Upload a file

  4. Click on Choose File and select the file from your computer

  5. Click Upload a File at the bottom

Three highlighted areas in the File picker: A) Upload a file button, 2) Choose File button, and 3) Upload this file button

Image Properties

  1. In the box labeled Describe this image for someone who cannot see it, add your alternative text. If you do not, there will be a warning that pops up:
"An image must have a description, unless it is marked as decorative only.."

  2. Select This image is decorative only when an image is used for visual effect and doesn't provide any important information or context

  3. Change the size of the picture if required. Make sure the picture isn't larger than necessary

  4. If you adjust one of the boxes and then click on the other box, its measurement will automatically resize. However, if you want to disable this feature, you can untick the checkbox labeled Auto size next to it

  5. Select the Alignment. This is based on how you want the image to align with any text that you are going to include within that text box. Alignment Left means that the text will wrap to the right of the picture

  6. Select Save image at the bottom

This image shows the "Image properties" menu for configuring an image. Key sections are: A) a description box for the image (currently labeled "Giraffe at the Tucson Zoo"), B) size settings where width is set to 300 and height to 400, C) alignment options (set to "Left"), and D) the "Save image" button to apply the changes.

Example with alignment of image to the left:

This is screenshot shows how to display an image (of a giraffe) on the text editor, with the a brief description to the right.
