Updated over 7 months ago

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to record your attendance in your course with or without assigning points.

Procedure

Click the arrows next to the titles to expand each section

Part 1: Add attendance to the course and set the grade points

  • At your course page, toggle Edit mode to on at the upper right corner.

  • Click on the link, + Add an activity or resource in the top section of the course.

  • Select Attendance from the Activity Chooser.

Configure the settings:

It’s best to leave the Name set to Attendance.

Scroll down a bit and open the section named Grade.

If attendance is for a grade, click the Type dropdown and choose Point. Set Maximum grade to the total course value. For example: 5 points per day x 32 class meetings = 160 points.

If you want this added to your calendar, place a check mark in the box to the left of Create calendar event for session.

Part 3: Modify variables (Status)

By default, the variables are set for Present, Late, Excused, and Absent. If you like these options and your attendance is not for a grade, skip part 3.

If your attendance does have value, this is where you set the “points per variable.”

Set the variables

Click the More dropdown menu and select Status Set.

More Dropdown Menu with Status set selected.

Use the Description field to set the variable name (you can keep these default names).

Use the Points field to set the value of each variable.

You can set these values based on “points per class” if you desire. It doesn’t matter what these are set to if your overall attendance grade has no point value.

Click on the Update button at the bottom of the page.

If desired, you can click on the trash can in the Action column to remove a variable.
