Managing Shuffling Options in Moodle Quizzes
Moodle provides several options for shuffling quiz content. You can shuffle answer choices within questions, control shuffling for individual questions, or shuffle the order of questions within a quiz.
Option A: Shuffle Answer Choices Throughout the Quiz
This option allows you to shuffle answer choices for supported question types, such as Multiple Choice and Matching.
Open the quiz you want to edit.
Select the Settings tab.
Scroll down to Question Behavior and expand the section.
Locate Shuffle within questions.
Select Yes to allow Moodle to shuffle answer choices.
Select No if you do not want answer choices to shuffle.
Scroll to the bottom and select Save and display.
When this setting is enabled, answer choices will be shuffled for questions that have Shuffle the choices enabled.
Option B: Control Shuffling for an Individual Question
You can also control whether answer choices shuffle on a question-by-question basis.
From the quiz page, select the Questions tab.
Select the question you want to edit.
Scroll down to the General section.
Locate Shuffle the choices.
Check the box to shuffle the answer choices, or uncheck it if you do not want them shuffled.
Scroll to the bottom and select Save changes.
This allows you to override the shuffling preference for individual questions.
Option C: Shuffle the Order of Questions
If you want Moodle to display the quiz questions in a different order for each attempt, you can enable question shuffling.
Return to the Questions tab.
Locate the Shuffle option above the list of questions.
Check the box to enable shuffling.
This setting randomizes the order of the questions, rather than the answer choices within each question.
Quick Recap
Option A: Shuffle answer choices throughout the quiz.
Option B: Control answer choice shuffling for individual questions.
Option C: Shuffle the order of the questions themselves.
