Upload a Video (Not a Panopto Video)

Learn how to upload a video into a Moodle activity

Purpose

This article demonstrates how to upload a video from your computer to a forum. The example includes steps for uploading to a Q and A style forum, but the steps are the same for any Moodle activity where the video upload icon is available.

Procedures

  1. Click on the forum activity on your Moodle classroom page

    If this is a Q and A forum, you’ll have to Reply to the instructor's post. Otherwise, you will click on the Start a new discussion button

  2. If the toolbar is not available in the text box, click on the word, Advanced, and you will be taken to the text editor with all of the toolbar options

  3. Click on the icon, Insert or edit an audio/video file

  4. Click on the Video tab

  5. Click on the Browse repositories button on the Insert media window

  6. On the File picker window, click on the Upload a file button and then the Choose File button

  7. Your computer’s file chooser window should open. Find the desired file on your computer and attach your file. For example, if you are using a PC, locate the file and double-click on it, or click the Open button to attach it to the Moodle File picker window

  8. Once the file is attached, click on the Upload this file button at the bottom of the Moodle File picker window

  9. On the Insert media window, adjust the Display options and Advanced settings. Recommended settings are shown in the screenshot below. Click on the Insert media button at the bottom

  10. Click on the Post to forum button

  11. Play the video for a few moments to ensure that you attached it correctly
