Purpose
This article outlines the steps to check for Orphaned activities after a course copy.
Procedure
After a course copy, please check your course page for Orphaned activities (Orphaned sections). This occurs when the blank course shell has fewer sections than the course you copied.
For example, the blank shell has 10 sections, but the “From” course has 12 sections. The last 2 sections will be orphaned - students will not be able to see those sections/activities at all.
At your course homepage, Toggle Edit Mode to On at the upper right of the course page.
Scroll down on the page until you see if some sections are named, Orphaned activities.
If you find Orphaned activities, please follow these instructions.
Be sure you have course editing turned on.
A quick way to reset each orphaned section is to click on the plus sign just below it, on the bottom left of the section.
Continue to click on plus signs below the orphaned sections until you have unhidden all of them.
Another way to unhide them:
Note the number in parentheses in the last Orphaned section.
Scroll back to the top of the page and click the course gear icon and select Edit settings.
Go to the Course format section and find the item called, Number of sections.
Set Number of sections to the number that you noted.
Click Save and display.
All of your course page sections should now be restored.
