Customizing the Course Dashboard

Learn how to edit the default settings for the Course Dashboard

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide instructions for adding and removing blocks and rearranging dashboard items

Note

The default dashboard includes a Calendar, Latest badges, Quickmail, Recently accessed items, and Recently accessed courses.

Dashboard Blocks

You can customize your Dashboard by adding blocks and rearranging them any way you choose.

Procedures

Go to the Dashboard page.

Click on + Add a block at the top

Explore the list of blocks available from the blocks list. A few of the blocks worth mentioning are noted below.

Timeline: Lists completed, pending and overdue activities. The timeline was formerly found in the Course overview but has been moved to its own block. You can choose to view only the activities due in the period of time that you select from the options in the dropdown menu.

Recently accessed courses: Shows a list of courses you accessed most recently.

Starred courses: Lists the courses you have “starred” because they are important or are your favorites.

Recently accessed items: Shows recent activities you opened from all courses. Standard Moodle and plugin-based activities will appear here.

To Remove Blocks

Some blocks can be deleted from the dashboard.

Click the Gear icon on the right side of the block you want to delete.

If the block can be deleted, the delete option will appear at the bottom of the dropdown menu.

To Rearrange your Dashboard

With Edit mode on click the Move icon

on the right side of the block you want to move.

Select the location you want to move the item to.

Warning: The list of where you can move the item includes spaces in the block drawer at the top of the list.

You can also drag and drop [click and hold] the Move icon and drag the block where you want it.
