Purpose
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to manually add a grade item into the Moodle gradebook
Procedures
On your course homepage, click on Grades. This takes you to the Grader report page
At the Grader Report page, click on the dropdown menu located on the upper left side of the page to access the Gradebook setup page
On the Gradebook setup page, click on the Add grade item button
Type a name for the grade item
Provide the maximum possible points for the item
If you have grade categories set up, choose the desired category here. If you haven’t set up categories, skip this step
Click the Save changes button at the bottom of the page
The grade item will appear in your Gradebook listClick on the dropdown menu and select Grader Report
Click into the cell that corresponds with a student's name to add a numerical grade. The right-side box is for optional comments
Note
Items added this way will not go to the Recycle Bin if you accidentally delete them
Note
If you want to copy your course in the future, the ONLY way manually added grade items will copy is if you do a full course import. If you deselect even one item during the import, NONE of these items will import
Note
You can create categories for your graded items following similar steps. Only create a category if you intend to add graded items to it. Categories are especially helpful for weighted grade items
Example:
Quizzes | 30% |
Homework | 50% |
Exams | 20% |
