Gradebook: Hidden Grades

Learn how to troubleshoot hidden or dropped grades.

Purpose

The purpose of this article is demonstrate how to manage hidden or dropped grades.

Note

This article will help you with these specific problems:

  • An activity such as a Quiz or Assignment that unexpectedly displays as hidden or dropped

  • A grade you can see but your students cannot see

Procedures

1. Troubleshoot a hidden Quiz

  1. On your course page, turn Edit mode on.

  2. Click on the three vertical dots across from your quiz activity title. Click Edit settings.

  3. On the quiz settings page, scroll to the Review options section

  4. For all of the Review options columns that are not grayed out, mark the selection boxes for:

    The attempt

    Maximum points

    Points

    Overall feedback

  5. Click on the Save and return to course button.

  6. On the Grader report page, look for eyeball icons that have a diagonal line through them. This means the grade is hidden from the student.

  7. Click the three horizontal dots next to the activity and select Show.

2. Troubleshoot a hidden Assignment or other activity

  1. Click on Grades on the course homepage.

  2. Click on the dropdown and select Gradebook setup.

  3. Locate the item that seems to be hidden in the Gradebook

  4. Click on the three horizontal dots across from the grade item to open the dropdown menu for that item. If the item is hidden in the Gradebook, you’ll see the word Show.

  5. Click on it to unhide the item.

  6. Navigate to your Grader report page.

  7. On the Grader report page, make sure Edit mode is on.

  8. Locate the assignment that is hidden from students and look for the eyeball with a slash through it. If you see this, it means the item is hidden.

  9. Click on each eyeball to unhide the item.

You may be able to click on the eyeball at the top of that column to unhide for all of the students with one click. This doesn’t always work; sometimes you have to click on the eyeballs individually
