Purpose
The purpose of this article is to explain how to adjust grade settings to increase or decrease grades after scoring is completed
Note
The procedure may not work on all activity types! This article will describe the procedure for the 3 main activity Types: Assignments, Quizzes, and Forums.

Click Grades and select the Single view from the dropdown menu
Change VIEW BY to Grade items
Select the Assignment to be adjusted from the list in the Select a grade item. You should be able to see the students and their grades for the Assignment in a list format
Take a screenshot or notate the current max grade and individual scores.
From the course homepage, click on the assignment you wish to rescore
Click on the Settings tab
Scroll down to the Grade category.
To adjust the individual scores along with the maximum score. Choose "Yes" under the dropdown for Rescale existing grades.
To adjust only the maximum grade and leave individual grades alone, choose "No."
Modify the Maximum grade
Click Save and return to course at the bottom of the page.
Return to the Single view in the Gradebook for the assignment to ensure the Grade and Range columns have adjusted appropriately
In this example, you can see the max grade (range) adjusted from 100 to 20, and the students' grades have adjusted as well.

Click Grades and select the Single view from the dropdown menu
Change VIEW BY to Grade items
Select the Quiz to be adjusted from the list in the Select a grade item. You should be able to see the students and their grades for the Quiz in a list format
SAVE A SCREENSHOT of Grades or download an xlsx file before proceeding!
Next, in the Action dropdown, click Override all to checkmark & select all the students’ grades
Delete all the Quiz grades from every student (make them blank)
Click Save
Click Override None to deselect all the students’ grades
DO NOT CLICK SAVE!! If you click Save at that point, you might never be able to correct the max grade in this forum
Navigate back to the Quizzes Edit settings page
Adjust the Max Grade to the new desired grade and Save changes
Return to the Grades - Single view page and select the Forum
Verify the new Maximum grade in the Range column. The grades will be blank.
Click Override/None to deselect and reveal the grades.
Click Save
Click Continue
Compare grades to what you saved. Check the grades in the User view screen as well

You can adjust the maximum grade for a forum, but you will need to manually calculate and update the individual grades.
Click Grades and select the Single view from the dropdown menu
Change VIEW BY to Grade items
Select the Forum to be adjusted from the list in the Select a grade item dropdown. You should be able to see the students and their grades for the Forum in a list format
SAVE A SCREENSHOT of Grades
or you can download an xlsx file of the whole gradebook before proceeding by going to Export in the Gradebook dropdown menu!
You will be using the forum grades to manually calculate the new grade once the maximum score has been updated.
Make sure edit mode is toggled to On
Next, in the Action dropdown, click Override all to checkmark & select all the students’ grades
Delete all the Forum grades from every student (make them blank)
Click Save
Click Continue
Click Override None to deselect all the students’ grades
Click on Remove overrides
DO NOT CLICK SAVE!! If you click Save at that point, you might never be able to correct the max grade in this forum
Navigate back to the Forums Edit settings page
Adjust the Max Grade to the new desired grade and Save changes
Return to the Grades - Single view page and select the Forum
Verify the new Maximum grade in the Range column. The grades will be blank.
Calculate the new grade for the Max Score using your screenshot as a reference.
Example: a/100 = b/20 or 80/100 = 16/20
Enter the new scores
Click Save
Grades will appear with a yellowish box in the grader report to show that they have been manually adjusted
