This article explains how to write multiple-choice, true-false, short answer, matching, missing word, and numerical questions using the General Import Format Technology (GIFT format) in a text editor, making it easy to import them into the Moodle Question Bank.

Import the File into your Course
Once you have created your GIFT formatted file, you can import these questions into the Moodle Question Bank.
Log into Moodle and open the course where you want to add questions.
Click on the More dropdown menu.
Click on Question bank.
Open the top dropdown menu and choose Import.
The Import Process
Note: If you need to create a new category, click on Categories in the dropdown menu at the top of this page and create your new category before you install your questions. Then, return to the Import page to begin installing your questions.
Select GIFT Format.
βClick the General section to view the settings. Click the dropdown for the Import category and select your destination category.
βNext to Import questions from file, drag and drop your file onto the blue arrow in the Import box, or click Choose a file... to browse for the file on your computer.
βClick the Import button.
You will see a confirmation page that the questions have been successfully imported.

You can now further edit the questions if necessary or add them to a Moodle quiz!
