Shuffling Options within a Sectioned Quiz

Purpose

This article provides a step-by-step guide to setting up a quiz or exam that will shuffle questions within their respective sections.

Procedure

Begin by organizing your questions into sub-categories within the course’s parent category via the Question Bank.

From your course homepage, click on the Quiz and select the Questions tab.

Click on the Add button to the right of the page number and select + a random question from the dropdown menu.

Choose the category to pull the random questions from by clicking on the dropdown menu.

Select the number of random questions to add.

Click Add random question at the bottom of the page.

Random questions have now been added to your Quiz.

In this example, only section 2 shows “Random” questions. Section 1 is set up so questions won’t be shuffled.

NOTE: Be sure to uncheck the Shuffle box at the top of the page. Leaving this box checked could result in the Quiz randomly picking questions from the specified sub-category, but then shuffling around all selected questions inside the actual Quiz.

To remove the Page Break, click on the double-sided arrow to the left of the page.

Section headings are set up by clicking on the pencil in the first set of questions.

Additional headings can be found by clicking on the Add button to the right of the page number. Select a new section heading from the dropdown menu.
