Respondus LockDown Browser™

Updated over 6 months ago

Purpose

This article offers a step-by-step guide for adding and setting up the Respondus LockDown Browser in your course.

Background

* Note: Use our guide or read the instructions at the Respondus website.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a downloadable web browser that increases the security of test delivery in Moodle.

When students use Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) to access a Moodle Quiz Activity, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or open other applications. Once the quiz or exam is started, students are locked into it until it is submitted for grading.

Instructors set a quiz or exam to require the use of LDB in Moodle, and students download the program before they begin. They open LDB when they are ready to attempt the quiz/exam.

Add the Respondus Monitor if you need a virtual proctor. It records the student through a webcam and flags anything deemed suspicious, such as a student walking away from the computer during a quiz/exam.

Testing Center

First you have to set up the proctoring service with the college Testing Center. If a student can’t take the exam on a personal computer, they’ll need to go to the Testing Center.

  1. Go to the Faculty Resources page in Moodle and locate the Testing Center tile.

  2. Complete the Instructor Enrollment (This only needs to be done once).

  3. Complete the Testing Center Proctor Request Form for the exam (This is done for each exam that will potentially need proctoring).

Add both: LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor

  1. Click Dashboard … in the LockDown Browser block in Moodle.

  2. Locate the desired quiz and click on the box to the left of the quiz. Click Settings.
