Purpose
This article describes the "Dropped" tag that will sometimes show instead of a grade for a Turnitin Assignment.
Background
Turnitin: Grade Shows as “Dropped” Until Post Date
In the Gradebook, a student’s grade will show as “Dropped” until the Post Date.
This is how it appears when the student looks at their grade:
This is because of the Turnitin Post Date setting.
The “Dropped” reference can be confusing for both students and the instructor.
Procedure
There are two options on how to clear up the confusion:
Simply explain to your students that this grade item will appear normally (not dropped) after the Post Date.
Make the Post Date match the Start Date.
Important: The Post Date cannot be sooner than the Start Date. The grade item will appear as “Dropped” prior to the Start Date. By changing the post date, you will not be able to “release grades” for all students at the same time. Grades will show as soon as they are input.
In the example below the Post Date has been changed to match the Start Date. The second example shows the word “Dropped” is gone when looking at the grades on the User Report page.
