Background

If there is an error when trying to upload a Respondus exam into Moodle from the instructor’s PC with the Respondus 4.0 exam/question creator software.

Check the following troubleshooting tips if the question bank uploaded to the course, but error messages appeared on screen and the quiz failed to be recreated on the Moodle course page.

Procedure

  1. Ensure the instructor’s PC has the most recent version of Respondus installed.

  2. Go to Respondus>File>Cleanup HTML. This can clean extraneous HTML or MS Word code that might interfere with the upload.

  3. Check in Respondus on the instructor’s PC for questions that are not formatted correctly or any other abnormality within the questions. You will need to inspect every question carefully.
In the example below, question 44 contains extraneous blank answers and duplicate answers. This caused an error, and the quiz could not be created on the Moodle course page.

** If any questions/answers, look unusual in any way, delete and recreate from scratch and try again to import the exam to Moodle.
