Supporting documents are the materials Cognibuild works from when producing your deliverables: your reports, briefs, specifications, drawings, and notes. Uploading them and assigning them to the right Key Deliverable is what gives your output its grounding in real project information.
Uploading documents
You upload supporting documents to your project, where they are stored and become available across your deliverables. You can add documents such as reports, briefs, specifications, planning documents, drawings, and other project material, and you can upload more at any time as your project develops.
Cognibuild accepts PDF and Word documents.
How Cognibuild reads your documents
Cognibuild works from the text within your documents. After you upload a file, it is processed so the platform can read and use that text. Once processing is complete, the document is marked Ready for AI, which means it can be used when running tasks or chatting with your documentation.
Because Cognibuild reads text rather than interpreting images, a document needs readable text to be usable. You can upload drawings, and Cognibuild will use the text within them, such as title blocks, annotations, schedules, and notes, but it does not read the drawing as an image or interpret its lines and geometry. A file with no readable text, such as a scan saved as an image or an image-only PDF, cannot be processed.
If a document doesn't process
If a document is not marked Ready for AI, it usually has no readable text, for example a scanned or image-only file, though occasionally it may be too large or have another practical issue. Uploading a version that contains selectable text, such as the original digital PDF or Word file rather than a scan, will resolve this in most cases.
Assigning documents to a deliverable
Once a document is Ready for AI, you assign it to the Key Deliverable it relates to. Assigning controls which documents Cognibuild uses when producing that deliverable, so the output draws on the right project context. Assigning the most relevant documents to each deliverable helps keep the output accurate and focused.
