What are Mobile Push Notifications?

Mobile push notifications are messages sent from an application that appear on your mobile device's notification center even when you're not actively using the app. Supported by the operating system (OS), these notifications can appear on the lock screen or in the top section of the device as a clickable pop-up. They are excellent external triggers to remind or inform users, encouraging them to open the app. Push notifications are best used to send timely reminders or important information.

Troubleshooting Push Notifications

If you're having trouble receiving push notifications in your Cogniss app, there are several areas to check and troubleshoot.

1. Enable Notifications at the Platform Level

  • Ensure that notifications are enabled for your specific Cogniss instance. (For apps built in Cogniss Community and Cogniss Hub UK, push notifications are enabled by default)

  • To verify or enable notifications:

    • Go to Admin > Settings > Platform settings > Enable Push Notification

  • If you don't have access to the Admin page, please contact your platform administrator to confirm.

2. Enable Notifications in the App Creator Settings

  • Ensure that push notifications are enabled at the app creator level.

  • To check or enable:

    1. Go to Creator > Settings > Push notifications.

3. Allow Push Notifications on Your Mobile Device

  • Ensure that your mobile device allows push notifications for the Cogniss app.

  • If you're unsure, you can verify by following these steps:

For iOS Devices

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Your Cogniss App.

  2. Ensure that notifications are enabled, and customize the notification style as needed.

For Android Devices

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications > App Settings > Your Cogniss App.

  2. Confirm that notifications are enabled, and adjust the notification style if necessary.

4. Test Sending a Notification

If you've checked all the above settings then you can test sending a notification to yourself:

  1. Go to App creator > Users > Your account.

  2. Click Send a notification.

    1. Select Message type

    2. Type message title and body text

    3. Type 1 as quantity

    4. Choose Push message as the delivery format.

  3. Wait 5-10 minutes for the notification to appear.

If you've followed all the steps above and still cannot receive notifications, please reach out to Cogniss Support for further assistance.
