Everything you can do with a rubric after you've created it, in one place:
Edit a rubric (rename it, change criteria and levels, reorder criteria)
Organize your rubrics (sort, name, delete)
Edit a rubric
1. Open Rubrics & Answer Keys
Click Menu at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Rubrics & Answer Keys.
Find the rubric you want to edit and click directly into the rubric name.
Rubrics tagged as school or district rubrics can't be edited. Make a copy and edit the copy instead.
2. Make your edits
Rename it: click the name field at the top left of the Edit rubric screen and type the new name.
Change criteria and levels: edit or add criteria, levels, descriptions, and point values.
Choose a scale: switch between Fixed levels (same scale for all criteria) or Variable levels (each criterion can have its own scale).
Delete a criterion: click the trash can icon to the right of its row.
Reorder criteria: click and hold the drag handle (the dotted icon to the left of each criterion), drag the row up or down, then release it in its new position.
3. Save your changes
Click Save rubric at the top right. To discard your changes, click Reset rubric or close the editor.
Your updated rubric is now available for grading or sharing.
Tip: Want AI to help improve your rubric? In Rubrics & Answer Keys, click the three-dot menu next to your rubric and select Edit with Rubric Agent. You can ask it to make criteria more specific, adjust rigor, add criteria, simplify language, and more. Learn more about the Rubric Agent.
Edit the rubric on an assignment with the Rubric Agent
You can update a rubric directly from an assignment you’ve already created.
Open the assignment that contains the rubric you want to update.
At the top of the assignment, find Rubric and click the pencil icon next to the rubric name.
3. Your current rubric will open. Click Edit in the top-right corner.
4. The rubric editor will open with the Rubric Agent on the right side.
5. In the chat box, tell the Rubric Agent what you’d like to change, for example make it more rigorous, make criteria more specific, simplify the language or add criteria.
6. Review the changes and keep chatting until the rubric reflects what you want.
7. Click Save rubric at the top right.
This works for any rubric on the assignment, including ones CoGrader generated for you.
Edit the rubric from a student's submission
You can also edit the rubric while you're looking at a student's submission. The submission must not be approved yet, because approved submissions lock the rubric. Unapprove it first if you need to.
Open the assignment and click any student's submission.
Under Customize feedback on the right, click the Rubric icon next to the rubric name
In the pop-up, select Edit.
Adjust criteria, add or remove rows, edit levels, or chat to the rubric agent to make edits as needed.
Click Save rubric. Your changes apply to the assignment after you regrade, and the updated rubric is saved to Rubrics & Answer Keys for future use.
Switch an assignment to a different rubric
You can switch the rubric on an assignment at any time, even after grading.
Open the assignment.
At the top of the page, find Rubric and click the pencil icon next to the rubric name.
Choose a different rubric: pick one from Library, import a file, or describe a new one to the Rubric Agent.
Save, then regrade the assignment so CoGrader uses the new rubric.
Tip: Changing several settings? Update the rubric, grading parameters, and feedback style first, then regrade once.
Organize your rubrics
Sort A–Z or Z–A
In Rubrics & Answer Keys, click the arrow next to Name to switch between A–Z and Z–A. The list also shows your school and district rubrics, which you can't rename or delete.
Name rubrics to keep them grouped
Rubrics aren't tied to a class, so a consistent naming pattern keeps them together whichever way you sort. For example:
Rubric Name | Purpose |
| Keeps all 6311 rubrics together |
| Sorts to the top |
| Sorts to the bottom |
