How to Fix "Stuck" Grading or Greyed-Out Buttons (Three Dots ••• Displayed)

What to do when assignment settings are stuck loading, and you can’t sync, export, or make changes to your rubric.

If you’re seeing three dots (•••) next to your Rubric, Feedback Style, or Grading Parameters, and the Sync button is grayed out, it usually means one or more submissions are stuck in the grading process.

Here’s what that looks like:

This can block you from:

  • Syncing with Google Classroom

  • Editing your rubric or settings

  • Exporting feedback

Why This Happens

When even one student submission gets stuck (for example, in “In line to be graded”), CoGrader pauses other actions to prevent conflicts.

So, while it may look like a settings issue, it’s usually tied to a specific student submission.

How to Fix It

I know this can feel frustrating, especially when you’re ready to move forward with grading or syncing.

Here’s the fastest way to unblock things:

Step 1: Find the Stuck Submission

Scroll through your student list and look for:

  • “In line to be graded. Please wait”.

  • "Grading"

Step 2: Delete the Stuck Submission

  • Click the three dots next to that student’s submission

  • Select Delete

Step 3: Move Forward

Once that submission is removed:

  • The three dots at the top will disappear

  • The Sync button will become available again

  • You can update your rubric, re-sync, or export

If needed, you can re-upload that student’s work after.

Why This Works

Removing the stuck submission clears the grading queue, which allows CoGrader to:

  • Finish loading assignment settings

  • Re-enable syncing and exports

  • Process new or updated submissions normally

Bottom Line

  • Three dots (•••) and a disabled Sync button usually mean a submission is stuck

  • Scroll to find the student causing the issue

  • Delete that submission to unblock your assignment

  • After that, you can sync, edit, and continue grading
