What is a Conditional Order?

What Conditional Orders are on Coinstash, the four order types and when each one triggers, how long orders stay open, and how to cancel one.

Conditional Orders let you buy or sell crypto automatically at prices you choose, so you don't have to watch the market. This article explains the four order types, how long orders stay open, and how to cancel one.

What is a Conditional Order?

Conditional Orders allow you to buy and sell cryptocurrencies at your preferred prices. Set your price criteria ahead of time, and Coinstash executes the trade once your conditions are met.

They give you more control over your trading because you can automate trades without constantly monitoring the market. They can help you limit losses and protect gains.

The four Conditional Order types

Buy or sell

Trigger price is…

Typically used to…

Buy

Below the current price

Buy if the price falls to your target

Buy

Above the current price

Sell

Sell

Above the current price

Lock in gains if the price rises

Tap any order type above for a worked example and step-by-step instructions.

Quick example (hypothetical prices)

If BTC is trading at $100,000 AUD: a Buy Limit at $90,000 buys only if the price falls to $90,000; a Buy Stop at $105,000 buys only if it rises to $105,000; a Stop Loss at $95,000 sells if it falls to $95,000; and a Take Profit at $110,000 sells if it rises to $110,000. These prices are for illustration only.

How do I place a Conditional Order?

On the Coinstash website, click Trade, choose your coin, click Buy/Sell/Swap, then choose the order type under BUY or SELL. Each order type article above has full steps.

How long do my orders stay live?

Your orders remain open until market conditions allow them to execute. If an order hasn't executed, you can cancel it at any time, for free.

How can I cancel an order?

Here's how to cancel a Conditional Order in a web browser:

  1. After logging in, you'll arrive at your account dashboard. Click Portfolio in the navigation menu.

  2. Go to Orders. This shows a list of the orders you've placed, along with their details.

  3. Find the conditional order you want to cancel in your list of open orders. It shows the order's condition, trigger value, quantity and other details.

  4. Cancel the order and confirm. The order then disappears from your list of active orders and is no longer pending.

What happens when my order is executed?

Once your conditions are met and your order is executed, you'll receive an email notification confirming the order is complete. The trade fee applies as it would for any trade. See What is the Trade Fee?

⚠️ Good to know

  • Trigger price isn't always the final price. When some orders trigger, they execute at the next available market price, which can differ from your trigger price in fast or thin markets. See Slippage and liquidity explained.

  • Conditional orders aren't a guarantee. If the price never reaches your trigger, the order won't execute.

Troubleshooting

My order hasn't executed. The market price hasn't met your trigger yet. Check its status under Portfolio > Orders.

I can't find my order. If it's no longer in your open orders, it may have executed (check your email) or been cancelled.
