Sent crypto on the wrong network

This FAQ explains what happens when cryptocurrency is mistakenly sent to a wallet on a different blockchain and whether recovery is possible.

What is a cross-chain transaction?

A cross-chain transaction occurs when cryptocurrency is sent to a wallet on a different blockchain than the one it originated from. For example:

  • Sending Bitcoin (BTC) to an Ethereum wallet

  • Sending BTC to a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) wallet

  • Sending USDT on the ERC-20 network to a TRC-20 wallet

These networks are not compatible, and sending crypto across them can result in permanent loss of funds.

How can I avoid cross-chain mistakes?

Each CoinZoom user has a separate wallet for each supported cryptocurrency. Always confirm that:

  • The receiving wallet supports the exact same cryptocurrency.

  • The blockchain network matches the one used by the receiving wallet.

For example, when sending USDT:

  • TRC-20 wallets (TRON network) begin with a capital T, like TLJSeMGiSa...

  • ERC-20 wallets (Ethereum network) begin with "0x", like 0x9fafa9761...

Does CoinZoom support both ERC-20 and TRC-20 networks?

Yes. CoinZoom supports:

  • USDT on the ERC-20 (Ethereum) network

  • USDT on the TRC-20 (TRON) network

You can send and receive USDT using either network without needing to manually select it.

Warning: Do not send USDT over unsupported networks, such as TRC-10 or Binance Smart Chain (BNB). These transactions cannot be completed and the funds may be lost.

Can USDT be sent on other networks?

USDT is available on several networks, but only ERC-20 and TRC-20 are supported on CoinZoom. We do not support the Binance network.

What happens if I send crypto to the wrong network?

If you have sent cryptocurrency to an incompatible wallet (such as BTC to a BCH wallet) your funds are likely lost. However, we can attempt to find and recover the funds for a fee of $1,000. Please print, sign and return the following document attached to a Support Ticket.

Warning: If the crypto was sent from your CoinZoom account to an external wallet, CoinZoom cannot cancel or reverse the transaction nor help you recover it. Please contact the owner of the receiving wallet to seek their cooperation and assistance in returning the funds. If you do not know the owner of the address, there are no possible actions you can take to retrieve the funds.

Because of this, it is essential to exercise caution when sending. It is always recommended that you double-check that the address you are sending to exactly matches the address of the recipient before sending. Best practice is to send a small amount of crypto on the first transfer to any wallet. While you will pay the withdrawal fee, it doesn't put the entire amount at risk.
