Use filters to segment your data

Updated over 7 months ago

Once your internal catalog is updated, you can use filters to segment your data. There are several different types of filters available to you in your CommerceIQ portal.

  • Internal categorization: SKU level filters created by you

  • Retailer categorization: Values supplied occurring in retailer data, such as brand, category, ad type, campaign type, etc.

  • CIQ categorization: SKU level filters created by CIQ

  • Market share categorization (Market Share): Category / subcategory hierarchy from your market share configuration

  • Campaign taxonomy (Retail Media): User generated values for campaign tagging (brand, tactic, initiative, etc.)

  • Standard shelves (Market Insights): Category / subcategory hierarchy for keywords in Market Insights

  • Custom shelves (Market Insights): Custom keyword tags for Market insights (priority, prime day, etc.)

Internal categorization

Internal categorization is set at the SKU level, enabling you to create custom segmentation like brand, category, subcategory, hero SKUs, active products, product line, new SKUs, etc.

Internal catalog filters can be used to help you filter your reporting and recommendations...

Adding a category / subcategory structure to your catalog can allow you to drill into customized segments (as shown below).

Edit your internal categorization by going to Tools & Settings -> SKUs.

Retailer categorization

Retailer categorization are a set of values that come from the retailer. On the sales and operations side its brand, manufacturer code, etc. On the retail media side it's Profile, portfolio, ad type, etc.

Retailer categorization can not be changed in CommerceIQ. If there are incorrect values, you will need to make changes in your retailer portal (e.g. Amazon Vendor Central, Amazon Advertising Console).

CIQ categorization

CIQ categorization are auto created filters based on different pre-populated rule sets. These values are updated dynamically, and allow you to filter our the noise, and focus in on the important products in your catalog.

Status:

  • Active = all items with sales in the trailing 12 months (T12M)

  • Discontinued = all items with $0 of sales in the T12M

SKUs Generating Top Revenue:

  • Top 20%

  • Top 20 - 50%

  • Top 80%

  • Tail

CIQ categorization is designed to help you cut through the noise. Within an online portfolio of products, there are thousands of changes and decisions that have to be made every day.

In the image below, you can see that when we filter the recommendations to show only 'Active' products, all 160 unavailable SKU recommendations disappear. For this brand, on this particular day, all out-of-stock items are due to discontinued products, so no action is required.

Market Share Categorization

Market share categorization is a category subcategory hierarchy that exists to enable you to segment and drill into your market share data. This hierarchy is set up during the onboarding phase.

If you wish to make changes, you can request them through our standard support ticketing process.

Campaign Taxonomy

CommerceIQ's Campaign Taxonomy feature helps brands structure, organize, and manage their advertising campaigns efficiently across multiple retailers. It provides a standardized framework for naming and categorizing campaigns, making it easier to analyze performance, optimize budgets, and scale strategies.

Key benefits of campaign taxonomy include:

  • Consistent Naming Conventions – Ensures all campaigns follow a structured format, improving clarity and ease of reporting.

  • Advanced Filtering & Reporting – Allows users to slice and dice campaign data based on taxonomy attributes, streamlining analysis and optimization.

  • Cross-Retailer Standardization – Unifies campaign structures across retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Instacart, enabling more effective multi-channel strategies.

Campaign taxonomy can be edited by navigation to CommerceIQ -> Tools & Settings -> Search Campaigns.

Standard Shelves

Standard shelves are a category subcategory hierarchy that exists to enable you to drill down into keywords within the Market Insights, and Reports Builder modules.

Standard shelves follow a hierarchy (category / subcategory, etc.) and should be mutually exclusive collectively exhaustive (MECE).

Standard shelves allow you to do drill down reporting, where you start at the top level (Dog Food) and then descend into more granular detail (wet/dry, etc) as shown below.

Instead of trying to analyze 4,000 keywords individually, adding standard shelves allows you to build more accessible reporting.

Edit standard shelves by going to Tools & Settings -> Manage Digital Shelves -> Standard Shelf. From there you can download the current shelf hierarchy update it, and upload the new version. If you need to create them for the first time, you can download the Standard Shelf Template.

πŸ’‘Quick Tip: match your Market Insights standard shelf categories with your Market Share and Internal Catalog category/subcategory hierarchy. This will empower deeper insights into what is driving changes within any category.

Custom shelves

Custom shelves are a set of keyword tags that allow you to filter your Market Insights share of voice reporting.

Unlike standard shelves, custom shelves allow you to tag keywords across different categories, and apply multiple tags to the same keyword.

Often, during tentpole events, you will have a set of priority keywords where you want to win with your campaign. You can add a custom keyword tag, like "priority" to these terms. Then once the promotional period starts, you can monitor your performance on those specific terms.

Custom shelves are more for creating keyword lists, where as standard shelves are all about creating a hierarchy.

Edit standard shelves by going to Tools & Settings -> Manage Digital Shelves -> Custom Shelf. From there you can download the current shelf hierarchy update it, and upload the new version. If you need to create them for the first time, you can download the Custom Shelf Template.
