4. Auto Tagging

Updated this week

The Auto-Tagging in Taxonomy feature in the RMM product suite helps tag multiple campaigns at the same time thus saving on time and efforts.

How will this feature help users?

Campaign categorization enables advertisers to strategically allocate budgets with flexibility. They can set new budget plans and reuse existing plans using these tagged campaign categories instead of the rigid classifications provided by retailers.

Auto-Tagging helps users by — automating the process of assigning tags or metadata to multiple campaigns, SKUs based on defined rules or detected patterns — eliminating manual effort and ensuring consistent data classification across the retail media platform.

Why It Matters

Consistency: Ensures all assets follow a unified taxonomy across channels and retailers.

Speed: Reduces manual data hygiene tasks by 80–90%.

Data Quality: Improves reporting accuracy and cross-channel comparability.

How it Works

  • Define Tagging Rules

    • Users can create “if-this-then-that” style rules for campaigns across taxonomy tags (like product category, campaign type, brand, region, etc.) etc.

  • Users can access Rule based tagging for each taxonomy as shown.

  • Example:

    • If Campaign name includes “Christmas”, then tag “Event = Prime Day”.

  • Pattern or Attribute-based Matching

    • The system scans incoming SKUs, campaigns, or creative metadata for keywords, attributes, or numerical ranges that match the rule conditions.

  • Automatic Tag Application

    • Once matched, the tags are applied after daily end-to-end (E2E) run — ensuring uniform classification across datasets without manual edits.

  • Alerts & Review Mode

    • Users can preview suggested tags before approval, or enable fully automated tagging.

Auto-Tagging in Taxonomy – FAQs

1. What does the auto-tagging feature do?

Auto-Tagging automates simultaneous assignment of taxonomy tags to multiple campaigns, products, or other entities based on predefined rules.

This ensures consistency, reduces manual effort, and keeps taxonomy structures updated with respect to new datasets that flow in.

2. When do auto-tagging rules come into effect?

Rules take effect as soon as they are created and are activated at the end of daily E2E.

From that point onward, any campaign that meets the defined criteria automatically receives the relevant tags.

3. Will existing tags associated to the campaigns be refreshed automatically?

Yes, once rules are active, the system automatically refreshes existing tags during scheduled E2E to apply the latest tags.

4. What happens if two or more rules conflict?

If multiple rules match the same campaign, the system applies them based on rule priority. Higher-priority rules override lower ones to prevent duplication or conflicting tags.

✨Note: Maintain a clear priority order and review it periodically to avoid overlap between rules.

5. Can manually applied tags override auto-tags?

Yes. Manual tags do take precedence over auto-applied tags.

6. How can I verify if auto-tagging worked correctly?

Use the Rule tagging setup screen to confirm which rules were triggered and which tags were applied. These help validate the expected functioning of tagging the logic.

7. What should I do if a rule doesn’t tag campaigns as expected?

  • Check that the rule is active and prioritized correctly.

  • Confirm that the campaign data meets the rule criteria.

  • If still unresolved, please raise a help desk ticket.
