What is Authorization?

In COMPASS, authorization is the process of giving companies permission to view the full content of your submission, including financial data, rather than just the public information. By authorizing a company, you allow them to see your complete profile, which often includes sensitive details that help them assess your qualifications in depth. This expanded access helps companies make informed decisions about partnering with you on projects.

How does Authorizing help you?

Authorization is a mutual step in building trust and transparency, giving companies a clear picture of your capabilities and making you more likely to be considered for job opportunities.

Authorizing companies on COMPASS not only maximizes your visibility but also positions you strategically within the network to attract targeted opportunities. It demonstrates your willingness to collaborate, which is especially appealing to companies looking to streamline their hiring process with reliable, accessible partners.

By strategically authorizing companies that align with your goals, you increase your chances of gaining valuable projects, both in the short and long term.

How to Authorize a Company

Each GC Company in COMPASS will have a card listing on the Financial Data Settings page. On this card will be their logo, name, and an authorize button.

Additionally, there may be tags indicating if the company is requesting you authorize them, work in your area, or are new to the COMPASS ecosystem. If the GC is trialing COMPASS, there will be a notice that they require direct prequalification during that period.

We understand your 1Form submission may have some very sensitive data, so we will always ask you to confirm when you click the authorization button.

From this confirmation, you can either cancel if you do not wish to proceed or click Authorize to confirm and share. This will instantly allow for the GC to view your full profile including the financial data submitted on the 1Form.

After you have Authorized a company, it will show a checkmark. You can unauthorize the company by clicking the Unauthorize button at any time.

Understanding the Filters

To help you manage your authorizations effectively, COMPASS offers six quick filters and a text search filter. Each filter serves a specific purpose, allowing you to find and authorize companies based on their relationship with you or their compatibility with your profile. The number beside each filter indicates how many companies are under that category. Click on each filter to show the relevant companies!

1. Requested My Authorization

This filter lists all companies that have specifically requested access to your full submission, including financial details. If you see a company here, it means they're interested in viewing more than your public profile.

How to use:

  • Review the companies under this filter to see which ones are actively seeking access.

  • If you wish to grant access, simply click "Authorize" for any company listed. This action will instantly allow that company to view your entire submission.

This filter helps you stay informed about which companies are currently reviewing you and simplifies the process of authorizing them so you can be prequalified faster.

2. Work Near You

This filter displays companies that have selected regions of work overlapping with your regions. By authorizing companies listed here, you increase the likelihood of building connections that lead to work opportunities in your area.

How to use:

  • Review the companies and consider authorizing those that align with your geographical work regions.

This filter is especially useful for expanding your professional network locally.

3. New to COMPASS

In this filter, you’ll find companies that have recently joined the COMPASS ecosystem, specifically within the last two months. As COMPASS grows, so does your network and your potential opportunities.

How to use:

  • Check the companies in this filter regularly to see which new organizations have entered the COMPASS community.

  • COMPASS will highlight any that operate in your work regions, making it easy to identify new partners.

This filter is a great way to stay updated on fresh opportunities and build early relationships with new companies.

4. Existing Connections

This filter lists all the companies you’ve already authorized. You can use it as a quick reference to see who already has access to your full submission.

How to use:

  • View this list to keep track of current authorizations and manage relationships with these companies.

It’s also a good way to ensure your active connections stay aligned with your business needs.

5. Qualified You

In this filter, you’ll find companies that have already qualified you for potential projects. However, keep in mind that not all companies choose to share their qualification outcomes, so this list might be empty even if you’re qualified.

How to use:

  • Use this filter to stay updated on which companies have specifically qualified you.

  • If the filter appears empty, it’s possible that you’ve been qualified without being notified, as some companies keep their qualification statuses private.

This filter provides insight into your qualification status and helps you identify where you might already be positioned for opportunities.

6. All Companies

This is a comprehensive list of all General Contractor (GC) companies in the COMPASS network, allowing you to explore the full range of companies you can potentially connect with.

How to use:

  • Browse through this list to discover companies that may interest you, even if they haven’t requested authorization or qualified you yet.

  • Authorizing companies here can help you proactively expand your network.

This filter gives you a complete view of the COMPASS ecosystem and lets you discover companies you might not otherwise come across. You will still see if a company works near you, is new to COMPASS, or is requesting your authorization via the blue and green tags in the top left corner of each company card, so you can easily make decisions from this filter also.

Search By Name

There is always the ability to search for a company by name using the Search Companies text box (pictured below)

How to use:

  • Type the name of the company you are looking for to filter down the list to only companies that match that name. Partial names may also match, so it will update the list as you type to refine down to what you need.

If your search has no matches in the COMPASS list, you will see this alert appear. From here, you can click Clear Search to return to the list of all companies.

What if I can't find the GC I want?

We understand you may not see every GC you work with in COMPASS (We'll get there!), but you can still use the COMPASS 1Form in some other prequalification processes. We've worked with hundreds of GCs and Insurance entities to ensure the 1Form covers everything required for prequalification.

COMPASS Data Control

When you search for a GC and cannot find them, you will see a card appear:

Alternatively, you may see the "no matches" alert.

Both of these options have the link to COMPASS Data Control. From COMPASS Data control, you will be able to share your 1Form with companies that exist outside the COMPASS ecosystem.
