COMPASS now provides subcontractors with the option of adding DBA (Doing Business As) or operating names to their COMPASS profiles. These names enhance visibility, allowing general contractors to locate their desired subcontractor by using any one of their provided names.
Subcontractors can add up to three DBA names to their COMPASS profile either during registration or through the Company Profile page. The "Primary DBA or Operating Name" name provided by the subcontractor will serve as their display name in COMPASS. If a subcontractor chooses not to provide any DBAs, their legal name will be used and displayed to general contractors by default.
General contractors can leverage DBA names in COMPASS as follows:
Search by DBA Names
General Contractors can use the Subcontractor Search bar to search by DBA names in addition to legal names and business numbers. When performing a search, general contractors may encounter the following match strings which can help identify subcontractor names that are not visible in the search results:
"Matching Legal Company Name"
this is displayed when the search matches the legal name of a subcontractor that has added DBA names to their profile.
"Matching DBA or Operating Name"
this is displayed when the search matches any additional DBA names aside from the primary DBA name on a subcontractor's profile.
Viewing Names on Subcontractor Profile Pages
General Contractors can view all names associated with a subcontractor by visiting their profile page.
The bolded name up top will either be the primary DBA name if provided or the legal company name.
The Details panel will contain the subcontractor's legal name and any additional DBA names if the subcontractor has specified a primary DBA name.
Hover to View DBA Names
An "AKA" icon will be seen next to subcontractors with DBA names across all tables in COMPASS. General contractors can hover over this icon to view the subcontractor's legal name along with any additional DBA names.
This enhancement simplifies the process of finding and engaging with subcontractors. By accommodating multiple identifiers, COMPASS ensures that general contractors can locate the right subcontractors using the names they’re most familiar with.
