Performance Review (EVAL) is a subcontractor evaluation system that allows all COMPASS user role types within your organization to leave structured performance reviews. Reviews use standardized five-star questions and can be supplemented with non-standardized comments for additional context.

Note: All information, including the rating and notes are visible only to members of your organization and is not shared with subcontractors and other general contractors.

Example Use Case

A typical use case is after project close-out.

Once a subcontractor completes their scope of work, the Project Manager (or project team) logs into COMPASS and submits a performance review. This creates a historical performance record that can:

  • Inform future bid decisions

  • Support prequalification status recommendations

  • Influence contract limits

  • Provide data-driven insights for internal discussions

Over time, multiple project reviews build a comprehensive performance profile for each subcontractor.

Scoring Structure

Subcontractors are evaluated using a five-star rating system across the following categories:

  • Scheduling

  • Cost & Change Management

  • Quality

  • Relationships

  • Health, Safety, and Environment

Each category includes sub-categories for more detailed scoring. “N/A” may be selected for categories or sub-categories that do not apply.

How the Score Is Calculated

Step 1 – Section Average

The average of each section is calculated by averaging the ratings of all questions within that section.

Step 2 – Overall Review Rating

The overall rating for a single review is calculated as:

Overall Rating = (Scheduling + Cost & Change Management + Quality + Relationships + Health, Safety & Environment) ÷ 5

Step 3 – Multiple Reviews

If multiple reviews exist:

  • The system averages each section across all reviews

  • Then calculates the overall score based on the averaged section ratings

This ensures the score reflects cumulative project performance over time.

How the Score Is Used

The overall EVAL score can be incorporated into:

  • Prequalification status recommendations

  • Contract limit decisions

  • Internal risk assessments

  • Future project selection

This creates alignment between historical performance and future opportunity.

Accessing Performance Reviews

  1. Navigate to the subcontractor profile

  2. Select the Performance Review tab

  3. Click “Add your first review”

The overall score is displayed at the top of the Performance Review tab.

Internal Section (Private)

The For Internal Use Only section:

  • Is visible only within your organization

  • Does not impact the overall star rating

  • Allows teams to connect the review to a specific project

  • Provides space for internal notes and additional context

This section supports internal tracking and decision-making without affecting the public-facing performance score.

Completed Reviews

  • Reviews are displayed in chronological order

  • Each review shows:

    • The user who submitted it

    • The date it was submitted

  • Reviews can be expanded to show detailed scoring and comments

  • Reviews can be edited by the original submitting user and system administrators

At the top of the page, a compiled total rating score is displayed, including a breakdown by category.

Completed reviews can be searched by project using the search bar.
