Assessments are a quick and easy way to create diagnostic and summative assessments on any content of your choosing for a particular class, or multiple classes at once.

Creating an Assessment

1) Go to the 'Assessments' page (it's the tick icon on the navigation bar at the top of the page.)

2) Click the 'Test' button on the right hand side of the screen.

3) Next, choose which type of test to create. You have a choice of Core Maths, NC Levels, National 5, GCSE (Wales), GCSE (England) and Custom Diagnostic.

To create a GCSE or NC Level paper, all you need to do is choose the tier or level, then the strands of mathematics, and the duration of the paper.

To create a Core Maths or Nat 5 paper, all you need to do is choose the strands of mathematics, and the duration of the paper.

Creating a Custom Diagnostic gives you the freedom to choose a selection of whole Stages, Units, and mathematical statements to create a bespoke assessment that covers only what you want the assessment to cover.

4) Next give the test a name, choose which classes it should be assigned to and then select the availability and due dates. Click 'Create.'

Back on the Assessment page you can preview your assessment, see the Solutions and review the Results as they come through. If you wanted to create a paper copy of this assessment? You can find out how here.

The Assessments page contains an overview of both the tests and quizzes that have been assigned.

Creating a Custom Diagnostic Test

Typically, the Custom Diagnostic Test can be implemented as part of a diagnostic assessment series, to discover gaps in the mathematical knowledge of each class/year group and to identify the appropriate starting point for a new cohort or class.

However, the Custom Diagnostic can be tailored to your individual needs, so you can create powerful bespoke assessments based off of only the units and objectives you have selected.

During the creation of a Custom Diagnostic Assessment, you have full control over the units and objectives that the assessment will be created on. You can pick from an entire Stage worth of content, or you can fine tune the questions to specific units and objectives within that unit.

Custom Diagnostic Tests have been used in various different ways across a number of schools to fit their needs, some examples of these include:

Pre-Term Diagnostic Assessments to judge a pupils understanding of a topic before it has been covered, to establish where pupils are at before it has been covered.

Post-Term Diagnostic Assessments that cover a variety of topics, including earlier stage topics that might relate to topics they have covered.

Diagnostic Assessments that cover only topics that a class may not be so confident with, regardless of whether those topics are in an earlier stage.

Custom Diagnostic Assessments built for higher attainers that may need stretch.

These are only a few suggestions, but the Custom Diagnostic option is built around freedom to create bespoke assessments tailored to your current situation, so you can utilise the generated assessments in any way you see fit - whether that's for lessons, coursework or homework.
