Introduction
This guide explains the content options in ComplyFlow's e-Learning authoring tool and how to use each one to build engaging online training courses.
Common Content Elements
All screen types share the following common elements:
Title
The heading that appears at the top of the screen. You can switch between two sizes — Heading 1 and Heading 2 — to demonstrate a hierarchy of information within your course.
Description
Where you add larger bodies of text, such as paragraphs or bullet points. On some screen types, the Description is hidden by default and must be toggled on.
Images
Depending on the screen type, you can add one or multiple images. Screens that support images will either display a placeholder image you can swap out, or an empty container for you to upload an image.
Screen Options Toolbar
The toolbar options vary across screen types. Depending on the screen, you may have access to:
Image options — Adjust the layout of images on the screen
Text alignment — Align text to the left, right, or centre of the screen
Display options — Hide or show elements on the screen (for example, show a heading only, with no description)
Background colour — Change the background colour of the screen
SmartColour scheme — Reset SmartColour elements to default
Duplicate — Duplicate an individual slide within screens that contain multiple slides (for example, the Process screen)
Delete — Delete an individual slide within screens that contain multiple slides
Reorder items — Change the sequence in which items appear within a screen

You have existing training documents you want to make available quickly
Supported file formats include:
Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
PDF
Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
Text files (.txt)

Note: Documents are displayed inline using a document viewer — learners do not need additional software installed on their device to view them
How to use the Document screen:
1. Select Add screen > Document
2. Drag and drop your file into the container, or browse your device to select the file
3. Add a title for the screen
4. To allow learners to download the document rather than view it inline, toggle Display download and select the arrow down icon.
5. To add introductory context, select the eye icon and toggle on the Description field
Embed
The Embed screen allows you to embed third-party content directly into your course. Common uses include:
Surveys and polls — Embed Typeform, Survicate, or Survey Monkey forms to gather learner feedback

Calendar booking — Allow learners to book a session using a platform such as Calendly

2. Select Replace image to remove the placeholder image. Upload your own image or search for one to use
3. Add labels for each hotspot. Select Add hotspot to add additional hotspots
4. Select and drag hotspots to reposition them on the image
Quiz
The Quiz screen provides an opportunity for learners to check their understanding of the course content. Quizzes can be placed at the end of a course or throughout to maintain engagement.
Unscored and Scored Quizzes
Unscored quizzes act as formative assessments — a practice activity that reinforces knowledge as learners progress. Learners can attempt each question as many times as needed, and no formal grade is recorded.
Scored quizzes are summative assessments that evaluate learner understanding, provide a score, and determine whether a learner passes the course. Scored quizzes allow you to set a passing grade and configure the number of reattempts before a learner fails.
Note: If a learner fails a scored quiz with no reattempts remaining, they will not be able to complete the course. Set the quiz to allow unlimited retries if course completion is required for all learners
With scoring enabled, you can configure three distinct finish states — Passed, Retry, and Failed — each with a customisable message.
Creating a Quiz
When adding a Quiz screen, you can choose to:
Generate using AI — The tool will create a complete quiz based on your course screens or a prompt you enter
Start from scratch — An empty quiz screen will be created for you to build manually
Quiz Start and Finish Sections
Start section — Introduces the quiz to learners and displays the number of questions. This section can be hidden via the visibility menu
Finish section — Congratulates learners on completing the quiz. This section can only be hidden when quiz scoring is switched off
Question Types
There are 7 question types available. A mix of question types is recommended to maintain learner engagement:
Multiple choice — Learner selects one answer from a list of options
Multiple response — Learner selects all correct answers
True / False — Learner determines whether a statement is true or false
Short answer — Learner types an exact word or number response
Fill in the blank — Learner completes a sentence by selecting the correct answers from dropdown menus
Match corresponding — Learner matches pairs of text by selecting counterparts from a dropdown
Match sequence — Learner places a series of answers into the correct order
Question Feedback
Question feedback is available for unscored quizzes only. For each question, you can customise the feedback message shown for correct and incorrect responses, including the button text (for example, Continue or Try again).
