n The Business Edge clients use the wireless warehouse to pick sales orders without paper. The Wireless Warehouse uses what is known as a license plate to identify specific inventory in the warehouse. The following should help to explain what a license plate represents and how it used throughout a paperless warehouse. When inventory is received on a purchase order it is assigned a lot number by The Business Edge. The lot number is made up of the purchase order number and the line number. The Business Edge also assigns a license plate to the incoming lot, this is a unique number. Here is a pie chart showing how a lot is broken down by license plate numbers.
When lot # 5000-01 was received, the entire quantity of 1000 pcs was placed into a single location. Because the entire lot fits in a single location only one license plate is needed to identify the product. The system knows that license plate 12345 is in location A1-01-05 and contains 1000pcs of lot 5000-01.
In scenarios where an entire lot does not fit in a single location, the system will automatically assign additional license plates for each different location.

We can see lot 6000-01 has 10,000 pcs. When this lot was received 5000 pcs were put into a bulk location and assigned a license plate number 56789. The remaining 5000 pcs were packaged and put into a package location and assigned a license plate number 56790.As pickers pull stock to allocate sales orders, they are directed to select specific license plate numbers for the allocation. This results in both the lot quantity being reduced as well as the individual license plate
This pie chart shows the lot breakdown after 500 pcs of license plate number 56790 were allocated to a sales order. The entire lot now has 9500 pcs available in which 5000 pcs remain in bulk under license plate 56789 and 4500 under license plate 56790. The use of license plates creates an in-depth level of traceability and accuracy throughout a warehouse. This high level of tracking ensures an accurate inventory count eliminating the need for physical inventory counts.
