Date Entry Short Cuts

The Business Edge has many shortcuts built into its date routines. Since there are so many, not everyone is aware of all of them. Here they are.

Today’s Date will be filled in, If you type T or t at any Date Field.

Yesterday’s Date will be filled in, If you type Y or y at any Date Field.

If you type T and a positive number, the system will fill in the date that is that many days from.

If you type T and a negative number, the system will fill in the date that is that many days before today.

If you type 0 (Zero), the system will repeat the last Date that you entered.

If you type a positive number the system will fill in the date that is that many days from the last date that you’ve entered.

If you type a negative number the system will fill in the date that is that many days before the last date that you’ve entered.

This is really handy when you are scheduling shipments in Order Entry. If they are consistent intervals, e.g. two weeks, you would be able to enter the first Ship Date, and then just type 14 for each of the other dates. The system keeps track of the last Date that was entered and calculates forward for you.

If you like to enter dates without the dashes or slashes, you can.

If you want to use 5 Digit Dates so that 011500 is entered as 11500, that’s OK too.

Both of these entries will give you January 15, 2000.

If you prefer to use dashes, slashes, periods, or even asterisks between your date fields, the system will let you do that as well. Any delimiter is accepted.
