When to Use a Custom Product Attributes Import
Conjura Retail Analytics automatically retrieves product data from your integrated eCommerce platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce. This data includes essential attributes like product category, brand, and SKU, which are vital for in-depth analysis and reporting.
If your product attributes, such as categories or sizes, aren't fully captured in your eCommerce platform, you can use the Custom Product Attributes Import to ensure your data in Retail Analytics is complete and accurate.
Why Import Product Attributes?
Accurate product attribute data is essential for meaningful product analysis. Whether you're analyzing product performance by category, size, or color, having detailed and correct product attributes ensures your insights are reliable, leading to better business decisions.
How Product Attributes Work
Imported product attributes are matched to your existing products by Product Key. Where an imported attribute is provided, it overrides the value from your eCommerce platform or OMS:
Product Brand: imported value takes priority over Shopify/BigCommerce, falls back to 'Unknown Brand' if neither is available
Product Name": imported value takes priority over your eCommerce platform
Product Category 1: imported value takes priority over the category from your eCommerce platform
Product Season, Product Color, Product Size: imported values take priority over connector data
The remaining attributes (Product Category 2, Product Category 3, Product Style Name, Product Print Name, Product Print Type, Product Fabric, Product Style Category) are only available via import and default to 'Unknown' if not provided.
Important: If you leave a field blank in your import, it will not override your existing data. Only fields with a value will take effect.
How to Use a Custom Product Attributes Import
You can manually add product attributes in two ways: via CSV upload or by direct entry into the app.
Important: Assigning Product Category 1 manually in the Product Table will overwrite the category normally pulled from your eCommerce platform or OMS.
CSV Upload Method
For large-scale updates, the CSV method is recommended. Here’s how:
Navigate to the Custom Data Import tab under ‘Connectors’ on the left-hand side navigation bar.
Select ‘Product Attributes’.
Download the CSV Template File.
Fill out the spreadsheet offline with the desired fields:
Product Key (pre-populated, read-only): Internal product identifier.
Product SKU (pre-populated, read-only): Your product SKU.
Product Name (pre-populated): The product's display name.
Product Brand (pre-populated, defaults to 'Unknown' if not available in Shopify/BigCommerce): The product's brand name.
Product Category 1 (Category normally pulled from Shopify/BigCommerce)
Product Category 2
Product Category 3
Product Style Name
Product Print Name
Product Print Type
Product Fabric
Product Season
Product Style Category
Product Colour
Product Size
Save the completed file.
Navigate back to the Product Costs import in Retail Analytics.
Before uploading your file, delete all rows in the table. You can see an example by hovering over "How to do it."
Either drag and drop your file or click 'Upload File'
Click 'Continue' to ensure all columns are correctly mapped.
Select ‘Submit Data’.
Your updates will sync overnight and reflect in your reports the next day.
Direct Entry Method
For smaller updates or single entries, you can manually input data directly into the app:
Navigate to the Custom Data Import tab under ‘Connectors’.
Select ‘Product Attributes’.
Enter the required data directly in the interface.
Submit the data.
Your updates will sync overnight and reflect in your reports the next day.
Managing Your Product Attributes
Updating Attributes
To update existing attributes, upload a new file or manually enter new data. Only one set of attributes is kept per Product Key - the most recently uploaded values are used.
Removing Attributes
To remove imported product attributes, locate the file under 'My Imported Data' in the Custom Data Import tab and select the delete button. Your products will revert
to using the attributes from your connected eCommerce platform or OMS.
Best Practices
Only fill in fields you want to override. Leave fields blank to keep the values from your eCommerce platform.
Ensure Product Keys match exactly with those in your connected systems.
Review your product reports after import to verify attributes are displaying correctly.
Use consistent naming for categories, colors, and sizes across your product catalogue for clean filtering and reporting.
