Distractors in the Functional Skills System

Learn what distractors are and how to pick the appropriate settings.

Updated over 8 months ago

A distractor is an incorrect or "wrong" option in a multiple-choice question.

In our Functional Skills System, our various assessments will present multiple options for answers. One option will be the correct answer and the other, incorrect, options are "distractors". Distractors are used to determine if the user has learned the concept.

The video below will show you the type of assessments your user will be given and also shows how distractors (the incorrect/wrong options) are used:

Here is how you can change the distractors for one of your users. Select View Accounts.

Search for your user. When you find the account, click on the name.

Choose Configure.

Find the section for the Functional Skills System. One of the options is for distractors. Below you will learn what each option means.

Default = All signs and words will be used as distractors

Only words assigned = Only the signs and words that are assigned to the user will be used as distractors.

In the example below, if the user had Only assigned words option selected, only the 10 signs and words that are selected for the users assignment will be used as distractors. If the user has Default for the option, all 60 signs and words in this program will be used as distractors.

Once you have made your change, select Save Configuration.
