Introducing the Contented Mobile App

It's the same Contented experience you know and trust, but now in your pocket. You can record a client call while traveling, capture a team discussion during a site visit, or save that brilliant brainstorming session that happened over lunch – all with the same simplicity and security you're used to.

One tap starts recording, everything syncs automatically to your workspace, and the audio is securely removed from their device once uploaded.

The app works offline too, so you're on a plane, in a remote location, or dealing with patchy WiFi, you can still capture what matters. It uploads automatically when you're back online.

How it Works

Create a Contented account, or join your team’s Contented workspace

You need to have a Contented account to be able to use the supplementary Contented mobile app, sign up here. On a team plan? Ask your admin for your team’s unique sign-up link, or get invited by someone who’s already signed up. Use a password you’ll remember - you’ll need it to log into the mobile app.

Log into the app

Use your Contented workspace login details. Forgot your password? You can reset it here.

Record your first conversation

Click record, and record your first musing, chat etc. Click stop, name your recording, and then wait for the file to upload successfully into your workspace.

Process your recording from your desktop

Head to the workspace, click “Upload Conversation” in the left-hand menu, then select “Recording from Mobile.” Click the file you want to use and process it like normal.


Feature Guide

⚠️ Important: Deleting a recording on the app, deletes it from BOTH the app and your workspace. Deletion syncs in both directions. So, if you want to create outputs, please don’t delete recordings from the app.

Simple One-Tap Recording

The app is designed for spontaneous conversation capture. Simply tap the record button and you're capturing audio immediately. No complex setup, no menu navigation - just instant recording when inspiration strikes or important discussions begin.

Pause/Resume Controls

Whether someone needs to step out, you're interrupted by a phone call, or you want to exclude sensitive information, you can pause recording at any time and resume exactly where you left off.

Offline Recording

Perfect for situations where internet is unreliable or unavailable:

  • Flights - Capture those strategic conversations at 30,000 feet

  • Remote locations - Offshore rigs, rural areas, or underground facilities

  • Poor connectivity - Conference centers with overloaded WiFi

  • Data conservation - When you want to preserve mobile data

Recordings are encrypted and stored temporarily on your device, then automatically uploaded when you reconnect.

Recording History

A clean, chronological list of all your recordings showing:

  • Recording name with date and time

  • Duration of each session

  • Upload status (Complete, In Progress, Failed, or Offline)

  • Quick access to retry failed uploads

Automatic Upload and Sync

Once you're online, recordings upload automatically to your workspace. No manual file transfers, no USB cables, no email attachments. Everything appears in your desktop workspace under "Recording from Mobile" within minutes.

Zero Device Storage

This is Contented's biggest security advantage. Once uploaded:

  • Audio files are completely removed from your phone

  • Only basic metadata remains (name, duration, upload status)

  • Protection if device is compromised - no one can access your recordings

Biometric Security

Instead of typing passwords repeatedly:

  • Face ID automatically unlocks the app on compatible devices

  • Touch ID for older devices with fingerprint sensors

  • Required on cold boot - When you first open the app

  • Required after 5 minutes - If the app has been in background

Consent Reminders

Optional but valuable ethical safeguards:

  • Pre-recording prompt - "Please ensure you have consent from all participants"

  • Professional protection - Helps maintain trust and legal compliance

  • Best practice encouragement - Builds good habits for ethical recording


FAQs

Getting Started

Do I need to join a workspace first?

Yes. The mobile app is linked to your Contented workspace, so you’ll need to be invited by your admin or a teammate before logging in.

Can I share the app with my team?

Of course. Just make sure they’ve been added to the workspace — they can then download the app and log in using their own details.

What if I forget my password?

Just tap “Forgot Password?” on the app or desktop to reset it. Easy. Or head here: https://aistudio.contentedai.com/login?flow=forgotten-password

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. In development!

Can’t see your recording?

Please check the following:

  • Make sure the recording is fully uploaded - in Recording History, you'll see a green 'Upload Complete' beside the recording

  • If you're offline, wait until you're back online for the upload to complete

  • Verify you're logged into the same email as your workspace account — recordings only appear in the matching account

  • Try force quitting the app, then log out and log back in

How do I start a recording?

One tap. The app opens straight to the recording screen, so you can hit record immediately when you walk into a meeting.

What if I get a phone call while recording?

If toggled on, Contented will automatically resume recording after a call ends or stops ringing (or any microphone interruption, think Siri etc.) - great for when you get interrupted during a meeting and you don’t notice. You can toggle this on in Settings > Auto-Resume

How long can I record for?

The longest we have successfully recorded is 7 hours. However, longer recordings require a strong internet connection for uploading and processing. For lengthy meetings or events, we recommend breaking them into shorter segments and then combining them back together in your Contented workspace for easier handling.

What if I lose internet?

No problem. You can record offline. Perfect for plane chats or anywhere with patchy signal. Your audio is encrypted and stored temporarily on your device until it uploads.

Can I use other apps while recording?

Yes, the app works in the background - so you can take notes or check your calendar mid-conversation. Just avoid using apps that also rely on the microphone (like Zoom, Instagram Live, etc).

Where do recordings go after I upload them?

They show up in your workspace under “Upload Conversation” → “Recording from Mobile.”

How do I know if a recording uploaded properly?

The app shows clear upload statuses and lets you retry any failed uploads. Once complete, the audio is removed from your phone - only the basic details remain (like name, duration, date).

Are recordings stored on my phone?

No - unless you’re offline. In that case, the app stores the encrypted audio file temporarily. As soon as you’re online again, it uploads and then deletes the file from your device.

What’s the consent pop-up?

If you would like a reminder to help you stay compliant and aware, you can toggle this on/off later via Settings > Show Consent Pop-Up.

What happens if I delete a recording from the app?

It’s permanently deleted. From both the app and your workspace. Deletion syncs in both directions.

What if my phone is lost or stolen?

Because recordings aren’t stored locally once uploaded, there’s nothing sensitive left on your device. Everything’s protected by encryption and secure cloud storage.

Can I turn on Face ID or Touch ID for login?

Yes, and we recommend it for quicker, more secure access. Go to Settings > Biometric Authentication to switch it on. You’ll be prompted for Face ID or Touch ID instead of typing your password every time.

Who can access the recordings?

Only yourself.

Can I see a history of all my recordings?

Yes — every recording you’ve made is listed in the app, with upload status and time recorded.

Does the app support dark mode?

It does. In fact, it’s engineer Charlie’s favourite feature. It looks great and is easier on the eyes in low light.

What’s the easiest way to navigate the app?

You’ve got three tabs at the bottom:

  • Home (for recording)

  • History (for past recordings)

  • Settings (for account, support, and security options)
