PII: Protect Sensitive Information in Your Workspace

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) refers to any data that can be used to identify, contact, or locate a specific individual. This includes information like names, phone numbers, email addresses, financial account details, medical records, and government identification numbers.


Who Can Use PII Redaction

  • Workspace Admins: Configure PII settings for the entire workspace

  • Team Members: Individual users can toggle PII redaction on or off for their own conversations


Types of Information You Can Redact

Our PII redaction feature allows you to automatically detect and hide sensitive information across seven key categories:

  1. Personal Information: Name, email addresses

  2. Financial Information: Bank account numbers, credit card numbers, routing numbers

  3. Contact Information: Phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses

  4. Technical Information: IP addresses, device IDs, system credentials

  5. Health Information: Procedures, blood type

  6. General Information: Names, dates of birth, personal identifiers

  7. Governance Information: Passport numbers


When PII Redaction is Most Useful

PII redaction is particularly valuable for organisations handling sensitive conversations:

  • Employee performance reviews containing personal details

  • Salary discussions and compensation data

  • Disciplinary actions and personal employee information

Finance and Legal Teams

  • Investor relations discussions with financial data

  • Capital raising conversations containing proprietary information

How to Set Up PII Redaction

Step 1: Access PII Settings

  1. Navigate to your workspace

  2. Head to top, right dropdown beside your name

  3. Select "PII Redaction" from the menu


Step 2: Configure PII Categories

  1. Review the seven PII categories available

  2. Toggle on the types of information you want to redact

  3. Each category includes specific examples of what will be detected


Step 3: Review and Save

  1. Review your selected categories

  2. Once toggled on, settings will automatically apply to all workspace members.

How It Works for Your Team

Once configured:

  • Team members will see PII redaction options in their conversation settings

  • Individual users can enable or disable the feature for their own conversations

  • When enabled, sensitive information is automatically detected and hidden

  • Original messages remain unchanged - only the display is redacted

Important Notes

  • Beta Feature: This feature is currently in beta, so we're continuously improving detection accuracy

  • Workspace-Wide Settings: Admin configurations apply to all members, but individuals control their own usage

  • Privacy by Design: Redacted information is only hidden from view - original messages are preserved
