What is a Dynamic Keyword Insertion?

Dynamic keyword insertion (or DKI) is a feature which will allow you to dynamically insert a keyword into your ad copy. In simpler terms, dynamic keyword insertion will allow you to customize your ad copy based on the search terms that someone might be searching with aka queries.

So if I have an Ad Group for my holiday bookings that includes keywords like:

  • vacation

  • family

  • luxury

  • holiday

  • etc.

With dynamic keyword insertion, I can show people who search for "holidays" the word holidays, people who search for "luxury " that phrase, and so on, in the ad text itself. DKI customizes the ad based on the exact search query.

In short: Dynamic keyword insertion allows you to show searchers a more relevant ad, since the ad is dynamically updated to include the user's real search query.

How to set up Dynamic Keyword Insertion?

Once you are inside your project, create a funnel, choose a template and let’s get started!

I chose the template in the picture, and I will change the highlighted text to a different title where Dynamic Keywords will have an impact

I have changed the title to " Tired of winter? Book a {{doing}} in our {{type}} resort!"

{{xy}} - two curly braces are needed to trigger DKI

doing, type, etc- that part is up to you to decide what you want to write as your trigger word.

I chose a doing and a type to make it more personal for the searchers. Some maybe searching for vacation or holidays, some are maybe searching for luxury or family.

Next up; to make your DKI to actually work, you will need to enter them into the DKI settings. Go to Funnel Settings to do so;

Look for "Dynamic Keys" and click on it. A window will open on your right and click " +Key" to add a keyword. In the settings there is no need to enter curly braces as you have already placed them in your text.

Fill in the blank fields. In this case I will give 2 different values for both words; For {{doing}} I will use holiday and vacation and for {{type}} I will use family or luxury.

URL Parameter is what you have placed in curly braces as e.g {{type}}, {{doing}}, {{name}}, etc..

Default Value is the keyword that will show on your landing page if the customer doesn’t input a specific term.

Once you have set all your words, click x and leave the settings. No worries, your DKI's wont be deleted.

Publish the page to see your DKI live in action

You can check out the rest of your DKI by typing in ?=type or ?=doing
