Migrating to Kit from another platform doesn't have to be complicated, and we're here to help. In this guide, we'll cover how to migrate from AWeber to Kit.
Let's dive in.
Familiarize yourself with Kit’s terminology
We refer to certain things differently from AWeber. Here’s a quick overview of the similarities and differences in our terminology:
Definition / Feature | AWeber terminology | Kit terminology |
A person who joins your email list | Subscriber | Subscriber |
Your collection of email addresses | List | List |
Collecting subscribers | Sign Up Form / Landing Page | Form / Landing Page |
Send a one-off email | Broadcast messages
Send an automated series of emails | Workflow messages
Trigger actions based on subscriber behavior | Workflows / List Automation
Label subscribers with specific characteristics | Tag
Filter subscribers based on shared characteristics | Segment
Design the look and contents of your emails | Template |
Take the time to get the hang of our terminology. You’ll use it a lot after you’ve switched to our platform.
Import your subscribers
Go to the Subscribers page in your AWeber account, under the Subscribers tab.
You'll see all of the subscribers in your list on this page. You can also search for a subset of the list using the "Search Option" drop-down menu before searching.
Once your list of subscribers appears, scroll to the bottom left corner of the search results, and click the Export CSV button to download a spreadsheet with all their information.
☝️ Important Note on Exporting with AWeber
Before you export the list, click “Current Subscribers” on the left. AWeber defaults to “Show All,” and you don’t want to email people who have unsubscribed, or pay for them in Kit.
Once you've exported your subscribers, follow the steps here to import them into Kit.
Recreate your forms and landing pages
Select the Grow tab in the navigation, followed by Landing Pages & Forms, to launch the Landing Page & Forms screen.
From there, click the + Create new button to create a new Kit Form or Landing Page.
Choose a Form or Landing Page template that matches your AWeber form or landing page the closest.
Then, use our Form or Landing Page builder to customize your Kit Form or Landing Page (as relevant).
Given the differences between our and AWeber's builders, you may not be able to make your Kit Form or Landing Page look exactly the same as your AWeber one. But use this opportunity to revamp the look of your forms and landing pages!
Then, when you're happy with your Kit Forms and Landing Pages, publish and replace your AWeber ones with them. 🧹

Recreate your email templates
Go to Email Templates under the navigation's Send tab to create a new email template in Kit.
Select an email template that resembles your AWeber email template the closest, and then use our visual email template editor to customize the template.
Try to design the template's text, colors, and fonts such that it looks similar to—or even better than—its AWeber counterpart.
Recreate your workflow messages
Recreating your AWeber workflow messages involves setting up Sequences in Kit.
A Sequence is a set of automated emails sent according to preset send schedules. To send the emails in your Sequence, you'll need to add the Sequence to a Kit Visual Automation (more on this in the next section).
Start a new Kit Sequence by clicking the navigation's Send tab, followed by Sequences, and finally the + New sequence button.
Select a default email template for your Sequence. (You'll be able to change your email template for specific Sequence emails afterward.)
Copy/paste the contents of your AWeber workflow messages into the Sequence, adding extra Sequence emails as you need.
You'll also need to set up the Sequence emails' Send Days.
For example, if a contact previously received your AWeber workflow message at the same time as their signup time, then set the Send Day for your Kit Sequence's first email to 0 days after the last email.
This way, the email will be sent immediately.
Recreate your workflows
Go to Visual Automations from the navigation's Automate tab. Click + New automation, followed by Start from scratch, to start a blank new Visual Automation.
First, recreate your AWeber workflow's conditions as your Kit Visual Automation's entry points.
Then, add Visual Automation steps corresponding to your AWeber workflow's actions and filters.
For example, if your AWeber workflow sends contacts one automated message after they subscribe via a specific form, you could set up your Kit Visual Automation like this:
Entry point: Subscriber joins a Form
Step: Add subscriber to a Sequence—where you've set up this Sequence as one email that's sent immediately
Test your migrated email setup
After recreating your AWeber email setup in Kit, test that it works.
You can do this by:
Previewing your Forms and Landing Pages to confirm they look good. Preview your Forms on your website, if possible.
Previewing your Sequence emails from the Kit Sequence editor or by sending yourself a test email.
Testing your Visual Automations. Enter your Visual Automations from one of their entry points (such as subscribing to your own Form) and check what happens after that.
