Tags help you organize your subscribers in meaningful ways.
For example, you can tag all subscribers who signed up for your newsletter with “Newsletter," and all subscribers from Chicago with “Chicago subscribers.”
Subscribers can also have multiple Tags. So, a subscriber from Chicago who signed up for your newsletter can have both the “Newsletter” and “Chicago subscribers” Tags, for example.
View your Tags by going to Subscribers under the Grow tab in the navigation. Then, click the greater-than icon (>) next to All Tags.
The number in the gray circle to the right of the Tag's name indicates the number of subscribers who have the Tag.
In this article, we’ll cover how to:
Create a Tag
Tag (and untag) existing subscribers
Rename Tags
Add Tags to Folders
Delete Tags
How to create a Tag
To create a Tag, go to Subscribers under the Grow tab in the navigation. Scroll down the page, and click the + icon to the right of the All Tags section:
A window will pop up, where you can fill out the name of your new Tag.
Hit the Save button, and that’s it. Your new Tag has been created, and you can now add it to your subscribers.
Tag or untag existing subscribers
NOTE: If you want to have your subscribers automatically tagged once they sign up to your email list, follow the instructions here instead.
You can tag (or untag) subscribers manually from either the Subscribers page or from individual subscriber profiles.
We recommend (un)tagging subscribers from the Subscribers page if you want to (un)tag multiple subscribers at once.
From the Subscribers page
Go to the Subscribers page under the Grow tab in the navigation. Then, use the checkboxes next to each subscriber to select the ones you want to (un)tag. You can select just one subscriber or multiple subscribers.
Then, click the Bulk Actions dropdown > Add Tag to tag them (shown below). To untag subscribers, click Remove Tag instead.
NOTE: The Subscribers page shows 25 subscribers per page by default. To select all subscribers across all pages for (un)tagging, select the checkbox at the top of the subscriber list (to the left of the “Subscriber” column heading).
Click the + Select all button that appears next to the Bulk Actions dropdown:
Then, run your Bulk Action as usual.
The Subscribers page will update to reflect the number of subscribers who now have that Tag. The update may take a few minutes, so check back later if the Subscribers page shows outdated subscriber counts.
From a subscriber profile
Go to the Subscribers page under the Grow tab in the navigation. On this page, click the subscriber whom you want to (un)tag.
Their subscriber profile will load. Click the greater-than icon (>) next to their profile's Tags section if the section isn't already expanded. Then, click the + icon that appears.
Use the dropdown menu to select the Tag to add to the subscriber, and then click Add tag to save your changes.
If the Tag you want to add hasn't been created yet, you can type the Tag's name into the dropdown menu to create the Tag first.
To remove a Tag from the subscriber, click the trash can icon next to the Tag.
Then, in the pop-up window that appears, click Remove to confirm your choice.
Rename a Tag
To rename a Tag, go to the Subscribers page, click the All Tags dropdown, and then click the three vertical dots next to the Tag you want to rename.
Click Edit, and a window will pop up for you to rename your Tag. Type its new name, and then click Save to save your changes.
NOTE: If you've clicked the Tag to view the subscribers who have been added to it, you can rename it by clicking its name (between the subscriber status and Bulk Actions dropdown menus).
Add Tags to Folders
You can group related Tags, Segments, and Product Tags in Folders to keep your workspace organized.
Delete your Tags
NOTE: To delete all subscribers who have a particular Tag, follow these instructions instead.
Deleting your Tags means removing the Tags from your account. Deleting a Tag:
Will remove it from subscribers who currently have it, and
Can impact Segments, Rules, Sequences, or Visual Automations that use it.
To delete your Tags, go to the Subscribers page and click the All Tags dropdown.
Then, select your Tags:
If you're deleting just one Tag, click the three vertical dots next to it > Delete.
If you're deleting multiple Tags, select them using the checkboxes. (Pro tip: Hold Shift on your keyboard while selecting your Tags to quickly select everything between your first and last selection.) Then, click the Bulk actions dropdown (pictured below) > Delete.
A window will pop up, asking you to confirm the deletion.
If you want to go ahead, click Yes, delete.
NOTE: If you've clicked a Tag to view the subscribers who have been added to it, you can delete it by clicking its name (between the subscriber status and Bulk Actions dropdown menus).
Click Delete tag in the window that pops up to start the deletion process.
