Sharing Your Account with a Partner

How to login to your account from another device

Updated this week

Before proceeding, please note that any additional logged-in devices will also have full control of the account.

Sharing Account Access with Magic Links

If you want to share access to your Copilot Money account with a trusted individual, such as a partner or financial advisor, you can utilize our Magic Link sign in method. Before proceeding, please note that any additional logged-in devices will also have full control of the account.

To grant access:

  1. Forward the Magic Link Email: Have the person you want to share access with open Copilot Money and select Already have an account? Log in. On the next screen, have them enter the email address associated with your Copilot account. Then simply forward the Magic Link sign-in email you receive from Copilot Money to the person you wish to share your account with.

  2. Access via Link: The recipient can then tap or click on the unique link contained within the email. This link acts as a temporary, secure key, logging them into your account without the need for a shared password.

  3. Prior Installation Required: For the smoothest possible experience, please ensure the recipient has already downloaded and installed Copilot Money on their device (smartphone or tablet) before they click on the Magic Link. This ensures the link correctly opens the app. The exception to this is if you’re logging into our web app.

Setting A Password

We currently use a Magic Link system to help increase the security strength for logging into Copilot. You can learn more about magic links as an alternative to passwords for logging in here.

For accounts using Sign in with Apple, you'll need to set a password via the Settings section of your Copilot Money account to log in on your partner's device. If you'd rather set a password for any other reason, please reach out to us via the in-app chat.

Tips & Tricks for managing a shared account

• Custom Category Groups: You can create a group of categories for each individual to manage their own budget.

• Using Tags: Tags can also add another layer of distinguishing your transactions, giving you a clear visual of whose transactions belong to who. This works especially well for tagging your Income and Internal Transfer transactions as those cannot be categorized.

Managing Joint Accounts: If you and your partner share a joint account, you only want to add the account once; otherwise, you will see duplicate transactions. Your partner can add their accounts for their own banking institutions in the Accounts tab, then you can simply delete one copy of each joint account without issue.

• Shared Expenses: If you share expenses with your partner like rent or daycare, you can edit the refund transaction into the same category as the original purchase.
