Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) Pairing

Instructions for pairing a heart rate monitor with a CORE sensor

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

When using the CORE sensor for sports and exercise, you should pair the sensor to a heart rate monitor as this will ensure that the results (during the sporting activity) are accurate.

The CORE sensor can be paired to most heart rate monitors including chest straps and watches that broadcast over ANT+ or Bluetooth. See below for known issues with certain brands or models.

How to pair a Heart Rate Monitor to your CORE

  1. Open the CORE App on Android or iOS and make sure that you are connected to your CORE sensor

  2. Click on the 'Settings Icon' - top right of your CORE

  3. Click on the heart icon

  4. Click on 'rescan' and then available sensors will be displayed

  5. Select the Heart Rate Monitor to complete Pairing. A confirmation message will be displayed

To remove a paired heart rate monitor, simply click on the trash can.

Checking if the heart rate monitor is connected

You can confirm that the heart rate monitor is connected the the app:

Inside the CORE app in the settings menu the 'heart' icon will be displayed in red and the current beats per minutes displayed.

Hints

Multiple heart rate sensors can be paired with a CORE sensor and it will connect to the first one it detects.

You only need to pair a heart rate monitor once to your CORE sensor. The CORE sensor will look for paired heart rate monitors and connect automatically.

It is convenient to leave the CORE sensor clipped to the heart rate monitor strap. Read more about Wearing Options and Care.

Known issues

Bluetooth only HRMs

Devices such as COROS, can only pair to a limited number of devices simultaneously. Depending on make and model, this is often restricted to two or three concurrent connections.

You should bear this in mind when using with CORE. Attempting to pair a bluetooth only HRM to CORE, your sports watch/bike computer, phone and other software/hardware at the same time will result in one device not being able to connect.

If your CORE fails to find a bluetooth HRM, it could be due to an existing bluetooth pairing. It might be necessary to go into your phone's bluetooth pairing menu and disable or remove any connection between the phone and the HRM. Then re-try the pairing with your CORE.

Garmin HRM 600 and HRM 200

These Garmin models offer the option to use a secure bluetooth connection. At present it is not possible to use this to method for pairing with CORE. You have two options:

  • You can use either ANT+ or bluetooth in "open mode", or

  • pair with your watch in secure mode and then broadcast HR from the watch to the CORE sensor via ANT

Polar HRMs

Certain Polar devices (Verity Sense, H10) may require you to adjust settings in the respective companion app in order to be able to use with your CORE sensor. An example can be seen below
