Introduction to Cozero Log
Updated over a week ago

Accounting for GHG emissions is a crucial first step that your company must take to begin on a decarbonization journey. Knowing your GHG emissions can help prepare your company to effectively manage risks and opportunities as the world transitions to a net-zero emissions economy.

With the help of technology and software, Cozero supports you in all steps of calculating your carbon footprint. Cozero performs all analysis according to the globally recognised standards of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Since you cannot manage what you do not measure, every transition starts by analyzing the current environmental impact

Cozero Log

A log is an emission balance and calculation in the Cozero Platform for a specific emission category or on an aggregated level, e.g. the emission calculation of travel emissions can be one log.

How do I enter data in Log?

đŸŽ„ Watch this video to learn how to enter your Corporate Carbon Footprint data in Log.

Step-to-step Guide:

To create a log, you need to select an emission category. An emission category is an activity of the company (e.g. Travel, Hosting, Heating consumption, Power consumption) for which emissions can be calculated. Emission categories are always associated with a specific emission scope as defined by the GHG protocol.

For information on emission categories, see here. For information on data sourcing for Log, see here.

To create a log:

  • Step 1: Click on the “Log” section on the left of the Cozero platform dashboard

  • Step 2: Select “Carbon Footprint” which is nested under “Log”

  • Step 3: Choose either the “Organization” or “Product” for which you want to create a new “Log”

  • Step 4: To create a new log click on “+ New Log” on the upper right in the Cozero platform dashboard

  • Step 5: Choose an emission category and follow the instructions on filling in information. This will include information on the “Location” and the “Time Period”

  • Step 6: Put in the data or use heuristic data by clicking “Add Entry”

  • Step 7: Click save and the accounting calculations are running

How do I to edit a log?

  • Step 1: Click on the “Log” section on the left of the Cozero platform dashboard

  • Step 2: Select “Carbon Footprint” which is nested under “Log”

  • Step 3: Choose either the “Organization” or “Product” for which you want to edit a “Log”

  • Step 4: To change a log click on the “Log” you want to change

  • Step 5: A new window will open

  • Step 6: Click on the “Entry” you want to edit

  • Step 7: Fill in your information and click “Save Entry” to save your changes

How do I input data? (decimals, ./, etc.)

  • The data for the log categories can be added by typing in specific numbers

  • Please note that decimals are very important and can make a difference in the calculations

  • By copying values from an excel, users need to be careful by pasting numbers to avoid mistakes in the decimals

  • The Cozero platform by default runs in English, i.e. that decimal separators are a dot (.) opposed to the German setting, where dots are thousand separators. Please be aware that your browser settings have to be in line with the language settings

Emission factors

Emission factors (EFs) are conversion factors that translate a business activity or process data point into emission output data. Typically, EFs are specific footprints of products, semi-finished products, processes or bundles of processes / services. Cozero has an aggregated database of global emission factor datasets that power the platform's calculation algorithms and allow users to easily derive footprint insights based on their business activities.

How do I customize emission factors?

The highest level of accuracy in your emission accounting is achieved if you have business- and/or supplier-specific EFs available. For that reason, Cozero allows users to edit & overwrite generic EFs to your custom datasets. Editing emission factors is limited to Managers and Admins.

Customizing your emission factors:

  • Step 1: Click on the “Log” section on the left of the Cozero platform dashboard

  • Step 2: Select “Carbon Footprint” which is nested under “Log”

  • Step 3: Choose either the “Organization” or “Product” for which you want to edit a “Log”

  • Step 4: Select the log you want to change the emission factor

  • Step 5: Select the log log entry you wish to customize

  • Step 6: Once inside the entry, click on the three dots in the upper righthand corner and select “Emission factors”

  • Step 7: Once inside “Emission factors” you can scroll down and click on “create a custom factor”

  • Step 8: Fill in data for custom emission factor and click “Save”

Viewing or editing custom emission factors:

  • Step 1: Click on the “Log” section on the left of the Cozero platform dashboard

  • Step 2: Click on “Emission Factors”

  • Step 3: Choose the Emission Factor you want to customize and click on “Edit” on the right

  • Step 4: Another layer will open, where you can edit the chosen “Emission Factor”

  • Step 5: Click “Ok” to save your changes made

Understanding data accuracy

Transparency is a key pillar of accounting and management. In order to calculate the most accurate carbon footprint possible, continuous quality management of the data collected within the defined scope of analysis is essential. In addition to providing support in the collection of primary data, Cozero's software provides completeness and accuracy metrics to help identify and avoid sources of error.
