What is a business unit?

A Business Unit is a specific area, department or team within an organization. For example, companies with a diverse customer base or geographical focus may set up individual business units for each product line or market. This allows them to operate more effectively and segment their products or services. The Cozero platform offers to map and create a digital twin of the organizational structure of a company for a simpler and more structured calculation of respective emissions coming from different business units of a company. As part of that, Cozero can build organizational hierarchies, i.e. Business Units and Subunits, meaning parent-child relationships between organizational units.

Within business unit management and editing there are different possibilities to also manage the viewer rights of selected users. This can be useful in case you want to limit the data seen by specific users. See “How to assign or invite users to Business Units” below to learn more!

How to assign Users to several Business Units // create User Functions?

Some users need to be assigned to several Business Units, meaning your organization has not only a flat, one-dimensional tree structure but needs to allow for a type of matrix organization. For that, Cozero has introduced the feature of "User Functions". This allows for Admin users to aggregate business units into a ‘User Function’. Users can then be assigned to a User Function, and can then access all Business Units that sit within that.

To create a User Function

  • Step 1: Log-in to the Cozero platform.

  • Step 2: Click on the three dots → “Settings”, at the bottom-left side of your dashboard.

  • Step 3: Click on “User Functions”.

  • Step 4: Click on the top right "Create User Function".

  • Step 5: Name the “User Function” and associate Business Units to it.

  • Step 2: Click on the three dots → “Settings”, at the bottom-left side of your dashboard.

  • Step 3: Click on “Users”.

  • Step 4: Select User and assign them to a Function from the drop down list.

How and when to activate or deactivate a Business Unit?

The option to deactivate a business unit can be useful if you wish to hide or remove the impacts of these emissions without permanently deleting them. If one chooses to deactivate a business unit it simply means the emission associated with that business unit will not appear in the log overview table or in the reports.

  • The status of a Business Unit can be changed by clicking on the respective “Business Unit” and switching the "active" button to active or inactive. If the button is blue-coloured, the “Business Unit” is active.
