What's new

Our aim with this course is to address the critical aspects of fire safety. Our focus is to equip back of house team members with foundational knowledge concerning fire safety procedures in the workplace and help them understand and put into action effective safety measures.

We built this course in Evolve. The design of this course is specifically for back of house team members and offers an overview of fire safety procedures and regulations. If you find the need for other role-specific training, we also offer specialised courses tailored for Front of House and Managers, as well as a general awareness course.

Course overview

This course aims to introduce you to the following:

  • The theory of fire and how to put your knowledge into practice in your daily role.

  • The legal requirements of the business and you responsibilities under the RRFSO.

  • Procedures to follow that ensure the safe evacuation of yourself and others.

Section one – Theory of fire

In this section, you’ll learn about:

  • The theory of fire.

  • The most common causes of fires in the workplace.

Section two – Fire legislation and enforcement

In this section, you’ll learn about:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 in relation to fire.

  • Employer responsibilities.

  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

  • Employee duties.

  • Enforcement of legislation and penalties for breaches.

Section three - Strategies for preventing the spread of fire and smoke

In this section, you'll learn about:

  • Alarm systems.

  • Fire and smoke control measures - Compartmentation, fire doors.

Section four - Fire classifications and fire extinguishers

In this section, you'll learn about:

  • The six classifications of fire.

  • Types of fire extinguishers.

  • Using a fire extinguisher and distinguishing between situations where is can be employed for escape and when formal training is essential due to a higher fire risk.

Section five - Fire procedures

In this section, you'll learn about:

  • Fire-related signage and symbols.

  • Actions to take on discovering a fire.

  • Actions to take on hearing the alarm.

  • Actions to protect vulnerable persons.
