🧩 Using Layers

Learn how to organize, lock, group, and reorder elements in your design using layers in the CreativeOS Editor. Layers help you manage complex designs efficiently and give you full control over each element on your canvas.

Updated over 6 months ago

Layers are one of the most essential features in CreativeOS, allowing you to organize and control every element of your design independently.

Think of layers as transparent sheets stacked on top of one another β€” each sheet can hold different objects, images, or text. When combined, they form your complete design.

How to Use Layers in CreativeOS

1. Accessing the Layers Panel

  • Open your project in the CreativeOS Editor.

  • Look for the Layers Panel at the bottom left of your screen.
This panel displays every element in your workspace, arranged from top (front) to bottom (back).

2. Reordering Layers

  • Click and drag a layer up or down in the panel to change its stacking order.

  • The higher a layer appears on the list, the more it appears in front of others in your design.

3. Locking Layers

  • Hover your cursor over a specific layer.

  • Click the lock icon to prevent that layer from being moved or edited.
This is helpful when you want to protect background or fixed design elements.

4. Grouping Layers

  • Select multiple layers (hold Shift or Ctrl/Cmd while clicking).

  • Right-click and select Group Layers.
This creates a folder that keeps related elements together β€” perfect for organizing text blocks, icons, or grouped visuals.

πŸ’‘ Tip: You can collapse or expand the group for a cleaner workspace.

5. Deleting Layers

  • Select the layer you want to remove.

  • Click the trash icon πŸ—‘οΈ or press Delete/Backspace on your keyboard.

6. Applying Effects to Layers

  • Select the layer you want to modify

  • Use the Properties Panel to adjust color, shadow, transparency, or other effects.
Each layer’s effects are applied independently, giving you full creative control.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Layers make complex designs easier to manage, letting you edit or move one element without affecting the others.
