System for Award Management (SAM) is a federal government system that collects, validates, stores, and disseminates information on individuals or entities that are eligible for contract awards.

An exclusion record identifies parties excluded from receiving Federal contracts, certain subcontracts, and certain types of Federal financial and non Financial assistance and benefits. Exclusions are also referred to as suspensions and debarments.

Credentially has direct integration with the SAM exclusions list. Therefore, your organisation can start benefiting from this integration now. Just request its connection via support@credentially.io or request it from your Customer Success Manager directly.

The Credentially SAM check takes a few clicks. Just go to a user profile -> Background Checks -> Add new check -> SAM and launch an instant check as shown below:

Credentially tip: Credentially will run the first check once an Administrator decides to run it. Then, the system will run scheduled checks monthly.

SAM check statuses on Credentially

Statuses displayed for Administrators and roles having access to Staff Members' records:

  • Clear. This status means the automated verification against the SAM database is successful, and exclusion records are not found.

  • Pending Review. This status means the automated verification against the SAM database is successful, and exclusion records are found.

The Administrator can verify found records by providing an SSN/TIN/EIN number. Once it is done, the Administrator needs to confirm the verification results to save the check result:

  • Found. This status means the system verification against the SAM database is successful, exclusion records are found, and they are confirmed by the Administrator.

Credentially tip: Staff Members will only see the "Pending" or "Completed" status of the SAM check without further details.

Manual SAM check

If you are aware of your staff member's name change or known alias, you may want to run a manual SAM check to get an up-to-date result. To do this, you will need Staff Member's new First Name & Last Name and their SSN/TIN/EIN number:

SAM check history

The confirmed check results will be displayed for Administrators and roles having access to Staff Members' records.

You can also print the SAM check report - the printable report will then be similar to the template below:
