The Office of Inspector General is responsible for oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’s) portfolio of programs.

The OIG integration allows checking if the user has active exclusion list records in the OIG database. The OIG has the authority to exclude individuals and entities from Federally funded healthcare programs for various reasons, including a conviction for Medicare or Medicaid fraud. The List of Excluded Individuals/Entities provides information to the healthcare industry, patients and the public about individuals and entities currently excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, and all other Federal healthcare programs. In general, the users with active records on the OIG exclusion list are not recommended to be hired.

Credentially has direct integration with OIG. Therefore, your organisation can start benefiting from this integration now. Just request its connection via support@credentially.io or request it from your Customer Success Manager directly.

The Credentially OIG check takes a few clicks. Go to a user profile -> Background Checks -> Add new check -> OIG and launch an instant check as shown below:

Credentially tip: Credentially will run the first check once an Administrator decides to run it. Then, the system will run scheduled checks monthly.

OIG check statuses on Credentially

Statuses displayed for Administrators and roles having access to Staff Members' records:

  • Clear. This status means the automated verification against the OIG database is successful, and exclusion records are not found.

  • Pending Review. This status means the automated verification against the OIG database is successful, and exclusion records are found. The Administrator can verify found records by providing an SSN/TIN/EIN number.

  • Found. This status means the system verification against the OIG database is successful, exclusion records are found, and they are confirmed by the Administrator.

Credentially note: Staff Members will only see the general "Pending" or "Completed" status of the OIG check without further details.

Manual OIG check

If you are aware of your candidate or employee's name change, you may want to run a manual OIG check to get an up-to-date result. To do this, you will need Staff Member's new First Name & Last Name and their SSN/TIN/EIN number:

OIG check history

The confirmed check results will be displayed for Administrators and roles having access to Staff Members' records.

You can also print the OIG check report - the printable report will then be similar to the template below:
